Description

In this Shakespearean comedy adventure, can forbidden love conquer adorable fairy outlaws?
"A Midsummer Night's Choice" is a 190,000-word interactive fantasy novel by Kreg Segall, where your choices control the story. It's entirely text-based--without graphics or sound effects--and fueled by the vast, unstoppable power of your imagination.
"Love looks not with the eyes, but with the mind, And therefore is winged Cupid painted blind"
When your father, the Duke, tries to force you to marry, you'll leave civilization behind as you flee in disguise, cross-dressed, into the enchanted forest. Mistaken identities, inexplicable bears, and tiny but fearsome fairies await! (Seriously, they wear little walnut shells for helmets, and ride armored baby bunnies into battle.)
Will you fall into the mysterious Faerie Queene's clutches? Will you (or your identical doppelganger) find true love? Or will your father's spies find you first?
Hold on to your heart! The course of true love never did run smooth.
NEW! Do you want to know more about the origins of this game? Do you want to impress your friends with how much you know about Shakespeare? And more importantly, do you want to know why there's a bear? Now you can purchase the Director's Commentary!
In the "Director's Commentary" mode, an extra option will appear on certain choices, "View new commentary," allowing you to read the author's notes about that moment in the story.
The author, Kreg Segall, is Associate Professor of English at Regis College, in Massachusetts, where he teaches and writes about medieval and Renaissance literature. In addition to his scholarly work on Shakespeare and Spenser, he has been writing live role-playing games for over twenty years.
• Play as male or female, gay, straight, or bi.
• Inspire the world with your noble deeds, or play everything for laughs.
• Star in a play within a play. (Er, within a game...that you are playing.)
• Become a jester, a diplomat, a knight, a poet, a shepherd--or leave the world behind and join the fairy court.
• Why is there a bear?!

A Midsummer Night's Choice Reviews

Great game

Great game. I really think there should be at least 2 sequels to expand upon the end of the story.

Yes!

I recommend this story so bad!!! It’s hard to choose between which characters to woo, and this author has me reading it over and over again so I don’t miss anything! It was also very well written, and it had me laughing and smiling so many times. Please read:D

It was just getting good...

I got to the part when the bear was about to attack when it said that I had to pay $4.99 to continue. There are other ways to make money like ads for instance. But, some people just don’t want to waste money on a game. By making the game cost $ 4.99 you just lost a player who was literally addicted to your game. Your loss not mine.🤷🏾‍♀️

Loved it!

I am not only an avid reader, but a huge Shakespeare and CYOA fan. This combined two of my favorite styles of literature into one in a flawless, eloquent way. There were very few typos, and the typos I could find did not draw me out of the scenes. There are so many ways to change your story, and I love that your stats can actually impact how well a choice works or not. Also, I enjoyed the fact that this story is not a direct copy of Midsummer Night’s Dream. It is more of a spin-off parody, being unique and pulling certain elements of the play into it, but still holds the fun atmospheric vibes Shakespeare’s original play gave off. This has so much replay value and enjoyable text that the $6 price point is very worth it. If you are a fan of choice-based stories and Shakespeare, you will enjoy this story a lot! I hope to see more Shakespeare-related CYOA content someday.

If you like Shakespeare or just fantasy in general this is definitely worth a try.

Fun but overpriced

Jhamnezzz121 on

The story like most of theirs are fun and exciting although it is way overpriced. It’s says free but you only get to play the first two chapters then you have to pay $5 to unlock the full game. Overpriced

Not worth it

Maxxxx40 on

There is absolutely no reason that this should be priced at $6. There’s plenty of better storylines out there at half the price and this story was the biggest disappoint I’ve ever encountered with Choice of Games.

The best choice based game

This was fantastic, to say the least! As a young musician and writer I truly recognize this as one of the greatest stories I’ve played in, and ever read. The way the genre of everything was smoothly mixed into the story was extraordinarily poetic. In the short time I’ve played this, the attachment to the characters of this game was lightning fast. The literature was above exceptional, and intriguing. At the end, it quite literally left me craving for more. I would gladly say this is one of the best story games I’ve played on the app store. I would love a sort of sequel to this. I would definitely play this and recommend this to anyone who would want a quick read and inviting, choice based gameplay.
