Steam-powered mechs meet forbidden sorcery! Inspired by Sherlock Holmes, Dracula, Jekyll & Hyde, and Jack the Ripper, "A Study in Steampunk: Choice by Gaslight" is an epic 277,000-word interactive mystery novel by Heather Albano, co-author of "Choice of Broadsides," "Choice of Zombies," and "Choice of Romance: Affairs of the Court." A Study in Steampunk Reviews

Addressing problems

Mineghost23 on

United Kingdom

First off let me address the problems with playing a girl. If you actually read the story you can see its lots of different story's merged together. For instance your a doctor working with a amazing detective (Sherlock Holmes with you as Watson) or the chorlora epedemic is the Bradstreet pump. The ship going down is hidingburg/titanic. This is why you can be a female.

Only one complaint ....

Engrossing storyline and hard to put down but would have liked the option to play as a female but you don't get the choice, you are a male doctor and that's it; so 4 (and a half) stars instead of 5.

Amazing.

Hands down one of the best games released. Incredible storyline, wonderful characters and a brilliantly complex set of choices that affect the final outcome. 10/10.

One of the best to date

Compelling, immersive, unexpected and brilliant. Some of the recent CoG have lacked the great quality and story telling that is present by the bucketload in this. A well crafted world, characters you genuinely invest in and a excellent, extensive and twisting plot. I'd recommend to anyone, whether you're a fan of interactive fiction or not, this is a real gem.

This is what I remember and love about Choice...

I buy every new Choice game instantly. However, there's always crippling bugs that cause me to give up half way through. This is the biggest, most branching story they've done yet. Definitely most bang for the buck. The game is well written with few spelling errors. All in all, one of the best produced.

Girls like steampunk too

The premise of this game is interesting, and the writing very readable, but I have one major complaint- the MC is designated male. This wasn't mentioned in the game brief, so I spent £2.49 buying a game only to find out I wouldn't really enjoy the experience of playing it. A shame.
