Getting there

joe2120 on

iPad user: The app is starting to have more potential for resident training but is missing some crucial functions and glitch fixes that would make the expensive price tag of the BCSC ebooks worthwhile. Best addition to the most recent update that gives it real potential is the search function across multiple textbooks. The quality of that search function could be improved if the screen didn’t lock with the word on top when clicking the arrow through the found words. It makes it impossible to see the context of the word other than the text below and requires leaving the search function in order to do so. Maintaining the ability to scroll as usual while also skipping through the found words would be ideal. Occasionally, the search function freezes and requires restarting the app. Notably, the new version unfortunately still lacks a user friendly highlighter function as previous reviewers requested from the older versions - spotty text selection and multiple clicks to make a highlight aren’t efficient enough to make this function worthwhile. A highlighter on and off button with less glitchy text selection would make all the difference. Overall, the app is getting better with the most recent update but for the price of the ebooks, I still don’t think it is worth the purchase for most trainees. If the AAO developers are able to take into consideration some of the above issues, I could see this becoming an essential purchase for training and practicing ophthalmologists but it is not quite there yet.

Sad excuse for an app

d'erics on

There’s a lot of potential here. Unfortunately is has not been tapped.

Unusable

mkswx on

I have been using this App for 5 years and it’s difficult to believe that each update seems to make this app worse. This has a HUGE price tag and the app constantly crashes, freezes, and even deletes text.

Poor functionality

mcr00 on

This most recent update makes the app nearly unusable. Basic functionality like page turning, highlighting, and changing text size no longer work as they should. Considering that the BCSC is central to resident education and carries with it >$1000 price tag I hope this will be corrected immediately. Revert to an older version of necessary. Also, even before this update the highlighter functionality was poor. We should be able to turn on and leave on a highlighter tool such that every time that we drag our finger on the screen the desired text is highlighted... you know, the same functionality that every single touch screen pdf reader has. This app is embarrassing. Please fix it.

AAO password does not work

A Koay on

Tried my AAO username (email) and password but the app will not let me log in. Even using my member number as username did not work. Useless app.

Nice job! It's great to finally be able to keep your Focal Points and other resources all in one place.

Won't even log me in

Red Fuji on

I've quadruple checked my AAO log in and password on my computer. The app just won't let me log in.

Another Format?

Frisbeedoggy on

First I bought a BCSC text on Apples iBook format. Then I found that I could not buy any more books on that format, I had to buy online versions. Now there is this new format, and I cannot access my other books on this one. Following this trend, I should expect to have a new format every year, with books spread across many applications. AAO could not assure me that this was the last format they were going to come out with. Not cool.
