AC-U-KWIK FAQ
Is AC-U-KWIK free?
Yes, AC-U-KWIK is completely free and it doesn't have any in-app purchases or subscriptions.
Is AC-U-KWIK legit?
⚠️ The AC-U-KWIK app has poor ratings and negative feedback. Users seem unsatisfied with its performance or features.
Two major issues:
1. Database update: I’ve had the database spontaneously REQUIRE an update during flight. You can’t access any part of the app and you can’t postpone or cancel the message. It happened often, even in flight mode! It makes the app unusable and you can’t access anything. You are stuck.. This should never happen.
As a workaround, I started taking some preflight screenshots of the data I expected to need during the flight. In the end though I had to buy the books.
2. Payment: there is no way to pay via the app or even online!! You have to pay with a check or fill in your credit card details and mail or fax it to the company… There is a call in option. What year is it anyway?
Smaller issues:
There is a significant amount of very useful info that didn’t come over from the books to the app (like Customs phone numbers) Why not include this info?
On the app home page, as you type in the airport identifier (before you can finish typing) it pops up a warning, or two, that the airport can not be found. This warning has to be clicked on to continue. It’s a nuisance.
Couldn’t it be possible to allow install on two devices? (iPhone and iPad from the same owner) In this digital age ‘If you don’t have it twice,, You don’t have it!’.
The information in the app is good and the information is easily accessible when it all works. The downfalls are however unacceptable. AC-U-KWIK is a necessary tool for GA pilots. It’s too bad the company hasn’t invested in or maintained the app.
Worst App Ever
Won’t Load, Can’t update, Slow and quirky when it used to work, loaded with advertising, horribly expensive. Penton Media has been a pain since the days of the Palm V.
Will not load database!
Awaiting the updated version. This one will not update. Wait for the new version. Hopefully it will work.
Won’t update database
Paid extra for app access but can’t get it to launch because will not update database. Bummer.
Can’t even login
Looks like App is completely abandoned.
Finally update to work with ios10?? Get real.
Like one reviewer said, “Get the book”. The app won’t update the database. I called and was told they didn’t know when it would be fixed. That was several weeks ago. Great book, poor app. They just don’t spend the resources to make this work. Won’t post with 0 stars is the only reason I gave it one star.
Buy the Book
This app will make you crave paper. The app is slow. It takes more time to find the info that you want on the app than it would in a book. And to top it off, there is less info in the app than the book.
Everytime you open the app a message asks to access your location, why? You are most likely looking for an FBO hundreds if not thousands of miles away. After you cancel that message another pops up saying location svcs are needed to use the app, they are not.
The diagrams that show FBO locations do not display. The FBO entries in the book at least indicate if it is located on the north, south, east or west side of the airport if no diagram is available, not so in the app.
Nice app, when it loads
Keeps crashing while trying to load data. Gets to 3 or 4% and then shuts down.
Lacking FBO Address Links
Good update with quite a few bug fixes but an item severely lacking is the ability to select an FBO address and it open directly in Apple Maps for the purpose of routing to the FBO destination. Just this minor upgrade would make this app much more appealing.
Side note: Changing the app icon to a less distinguishable blue with small writing makes it harder to find amongst a sea of other blue icon apps.
Not iOS 9 compatible
I paid a lot of money for a subscription to Ac-u-Kwik for this app to crash on startup in iOS 9. No email warning either of the lack of compatibility.
