After having gone through all the free content, I have 3 main problems with this app: 1) Awful preset options, both the options themselves (little variety, frequently no change in outcome) and in UX (just shows the first X words of the next story segment, as opposed to adding a layer which parses and summarized the option). 2) Story segments go one step too far, leading to excessive and sometimes braindead railroading. For example, the castle scenario starts by forcing the protagonists to exit a besieged castle and enter open battle. Without motivation, such as running out of food and being desperate, it doesn’t make sense to go into open battle, and it’s awful that I have to manually type in something like “actually, I go back inside the castle because open battle would be suicidal.” 3) Most importantly, all of this is made worse by the fundamental missing feature of role playing or writing a story: the ability to ask questions out of character. Where am I? What is my goal? Am I alone? The fact that you can go through any scenario and have the 5 W’s unanswered (Who, What, When, Where, Why) is such a catastrophic failure of storytelling, I’m extremely confused what the goal of the app development even is, because it certainly isn’t to create engaging or entertaining stories. This app claims to put you in the role of protagonist, making decisions that shape the story. However, it doesn’t at all deliver on that promise. A fully prewritten Choose Your Own Adventure style story would be more satisfying, but I understand that it takes a completely different skill set to create. Right now, this app’s redeeming features are that it’s visually interesting and that it (kind of) lets you type in custom responses, even if the language model isn’t able to address those in an engaging way.
I thought 17+ apps were more at ease with sexually explicit stuff. I was playing AI Tales - Calm Chat Stories and was writing my own adventure/story. Word for word. Because, all the generated ones were more bland and dull than anything else. So, I made it extra spicy and homoerotic. I was “playing as” Ganymede and just typed what Zeus would do to Ganymede/him. I had just finished typing something and… The app said, “AI is confused and shy. Can’t you try phrasing it in a kinder way?” Bust! Instant bust! I deleted the game. Like, the game IS rated 17+. Why are they getting flushed about sexual stuff? If it was rated 12+ or lower, I’d understand. But, it’s meant for adults! I’m just going to wait until, AI Dungeon is finished with maintenance. That’s the only reason why I even gave this game a try. I thought it’d be like AI Dungeon. But, it’s definitely not! 😭😭😭 👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻
As many, myself included, will say in the reviews, plenty of potential. Overall great quality, awesome concept, and plenty interesting. However it is a little buggy and the grammar is, while somewhat legible, pretty bad. Creating your own story is especially a work in progress as more often than not the AI doesn’t understand where the story should go- and the stories premade for the game itself? Kind of short and a little predictable. I do believe that with time it will grow to be the type of app that changes the course of ai games, but as of now it is still very much an up-and-coming project.
Had a play and the AI was incredibly good. I could only wish for a infinite run where their wasn’t an end but still this is a great project and a fun game and genuinely excited to see it progress. Edit: Realized it’s with the subscription. Should have paid attention. Oh well.
This is an interesting idea in concept, but in reality it doesn’t work all that well. The story segments tend to not make any sense, and the choices make even less sense… I started the pirate story and it began with the enemy pirates having a large crew— that was essentially the whole story segment— and my two options were “fight the pirates” or “you have a small crew”. Huh? From there it just got even more nonsensical with the such story segments as “the pirate captain pokes you with a bullet”, “you grab the gun, it is easy to pull apart” and so on. The AI-generated backgrounds also don’t match up very well… In the pirate story I was often seeing castles or, more bizarrely, a group of what looked to be modern American army soldiers. The app has potential, but so far it just isn’t there.
This game is very fun and relaxing but I just shows you how advanced AI is now a days It listens to what you say and comments on it The AI is really nice and a good friend when you have no one
it’s so good I love it
I'm gonna be honest i wasn't expecting much out of this game, my expectations were completely blown out of the water. Incredible game, would download again 10/10
the concept is super cool and i enjoyed it for like the first 5 minutes! it does however get boring and feel repetitive.
