Air Display

An extra monitor for your Mac

Published by: Avatron

Description

Air Display turns your iOS screen into a wireless (or wired) display for your Mac.
“Whether you’re a MacBook owner with an occasionally need to expand the desktop while on the road or a Mac Pro user who can never have enough screens, Air Display 3 is a cost-effective way to add up to four displays using devices you already own.” —Macworld
“You have a bunch of different options to turn your iPad into a second display, but we prefer Air Display as the easiest option.” — Lifehacker
Increase your productivity with extra screen real estate, or mirror your Mac computer display to your iOS device. (Sorry Windows users, Air Display is just for Macs.)
For best results, connect via USB for buttery smooth graphics performance.
Air Display has two components: this iOS app and a separate free host app that you install on your Mac.
KEY FEATURES
Wi-Fi or USB — You can connect wirelessly. And for even faster, more reliable performance, you can connect your iOS device and Mac via the USB charging cable.
Pressure Sensitivity — Use an Apple Pencil, a third-party pressure-sensitive pen, or even your finger to draw or paint into pressure-aware Mac apps like Photoshop and Motion.
Teleprompter Mode — Air Display can flip your screen horizontally or vertically for use with a teleprompter.
Pinch Zoom — Zoom in to magnify the screen. This is especially useful when drawing or painting details.
Multiple Monitors — Air Display connects up to 4 iPads simultaneously for powerful multi-monitor configurations.
HiDPI — Choose Normal, Retina, or HiDPI resolution to suit your taste.
Keyboard — Type using Air Display's built-in keyboard or any Bluetooth keyboard.
Touch Gestures — You can control your Mac with intuitive iOS gestures: tap or drag to operate the mouse or tap with two fingers to right-click.
SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
• Host: macOS 10.8 and above (macOS 10.13.4–10.13.6 is not supported), but latest features require a host on 10.10+
• Windows is not supported
• For wired connection: Lightning-to-USB or USB-C charging cable
• For wireless connection: both Mac and iOS device(s) must be on the same Wi-Fi network

Air Display Reviews

Not good

I downloaded to connect to windows but It wasn't compatible with windows. Disappointed. Would like a refund

Doesn't work on latest MacOS

kosmas122 on

My MacBook runs Sonoma 14.2.1 and this fails to connect. Also my emails to Avatron tech support were not answered. I don't know if this company is in business any more, they don't seem to update theirvsoftware to keep it compatible with latest OS, so beware.

Doesn’t work with new MacBooks

Reee67 on

United States

I downloaded this app thinking the reviews looked great. I have a MacBook that is about 2 years old and an iPad that is 5 years old. The app doesn’t work at all and it asks me to connect via a USB which has NOT existed on Macs for five years. I find it shocking that Apple allows an app this out of date to be sold on the App Store.

Try Something Else

I should have noticed the last review and updates were 3 years ago. Otherwise they will indeed take your money. As for whether the app will work, if it does then you are lucky. If it doesn’t then you’ll be like me. There’s no support or anything remotely close to online resources to help you troubleshoot or fix the problem. 3 years ago they said Apple’s updates were the limitation. But despite doing the necessary permissions the app just doesn’t work. This is a ghost town. Abandoned and uninhabited. I wouldn’t advise. Stay away. Try Easy Canvas or something more up to date.

I need a refund. Promptly.

I just got my iPad Air and a MacBook Pro, and I have been trying to figure out how to pair the two together and this is by far the worst application I’ve attempted to set up. Only AFTER I bought the app and had some random “video drivers” downloaded onto my MacBook did I find out that my MacBook isn’t even compatible with this program. So it won’t even work. I would like to say I need a refund, but from the sounds of these other reviews, I don’t believe I will be getting one.

Superbly Functional

This app works great... Made my iPad 2 a functional 3rd display. Excellent!

Not compatible with M1 Mac

hecibanez on

United States

If you search for this app not compatible with M1 Macs is no where to be found unless you dig for it. Complete scam. That should be up front. Contacted costumer support and have not heard anything back. No refund yet. Maybe a good product 2 years ago but if they do not plan on updating to support current apple products why are they acting like they work on current apple products? Waste of money. To be continued.

Unfortunately wasted money

Leopardpaw23 on

United States

I’m sure this was a great app Several updates ago but unfortunately my iMac and iPad are too new and not supported (macOS Monterey 12.1) I should’ve done a little more research before buying. This is merely just a warning for anyone else looking in the App Store no hate to this company.

Slow evolution

André Brasil on

United States

Developers take ages to update the app to new operating systems, and most MacOS updates make the airDisplay useless. For M1 users, a chip that has been in the market for over 18 months, all we get is sorry “ intrepid pioneers”, even though there are already a few new generations of the chip.

Host not compatible with M1 Macs

NuggetPapa on

United States

This should be more prominently noted so that people with M1 Macs don’t waste their money buying this product. Has the developer just given up on development to keep up with the “latest” macs? Note that M1 chips have been in use for at least 2 years by now.
