《增廣賢文》從表面上看似乎雜亂無章，但只要認真通讀全書，不難發現有其內在的邏輯。
《增廣賢文》對人性的認識以“性本惡”為前提，以冷峻的目光洞察社會人生、親情被金錢污染，“貧居鬧世無人問，富在深山有遠親”；友情只是一句謊言，“有酒有肉多兄弟，急難何曾見一人”；尊卑由金錢來决定，“不信但看筵中酒，杯杯先敬有錢人”；法律和正義為金錢所操縱，“衙門八字開，有理無錢莫進來”；人性被利益扭曲，“山中有直樹，世上無直人”；世故導致人心巨測，“畫虎畫皮難畫骨，知人知面不知心”；人言善惡難辯，“入山不怕傷人虎，只怕人情兩面刀”。
《增廣賢文》把社會諸多方面的陰暗現象高度概括，冷冰冰地陳列在讀者面前。
《增廣賢文》絕大多數句子都來自經史子集，詩詞曲賦、戲劇小說以及文人雜記，其思想觀念都直接或間接地來自儒釋道各家經典，從廣義上來說，它是雅俗共賞的“經”的普及本，不需講解就能讀懂。
