《古蘭經》是伊斯蘭教唯一的根本經典。它是穆罕默德在23年的傳教過程中陸續宣佈的“安拉啟示”的彙集。“古蘭”一詞系阿拉伯語Quran的音譯，意為“宣讀”、“誦讀”或“讀物”，複述真主的話語之意。中國舊譯為《古爾阿尼》、《可蘭經》、《古蘭真經》、《寶命真經》等。中世紀伊斯蘭經注學家根據經文的表述，說它有55種名稱，其中常以“克塔布”（書、讀本）、“啟示”、“迪克爾”（贊念）、“真理”、“光”、“智慧”等來稱呼。現存最古老的西元688年的《古蘭經》藏於埃及國家圖書館。
