Shortcuts FAQ
Is Shortcuts free?
Yes, Shortcuts is completely free and it doesn't have any in-app purchases or subscriptions.
Is Shortcuts legit?
🤔 The Shortcuts app's quality is mixed. Some users are satisfied, while others report issues. Consider reading individual reviews for more context.
The app works without flaw.
Similar to the volume adjustment from activity controls menu, slider controls as input methods would offer additional functionality. Sliders with incremental stops are an additional input.
This allows for a value range input, without having to display a list of options.
The permissions could benefit from more granular control on a per-shortcut basis. This prevents downloading a shortcut from a third party that may have additional intentions beyond the user's immediate understanding.
When a prompt from shortcuts is displayed, some form of contextual UI change (i.e designating the displayed window is not authored by apple but by the shortcuts app) will prevent unintentional entry of data in a malicious shortcut.
These are ultimately just suggestions, and may require a review to fully understand the appropriate resolve in these types of scenarios.
I am very happy with the app other than its name (I won't go further on that tangent, before have to cut myself short for displaying more than ironic personality traits that would serve a comments section like this some bizarre entertainment).
This app offers great promise to increase the productivity and general understanding of how one may optimise their work done on a mobile Apple device.
I think the app delivers great use to those who currently use it, including myself. I find it does improve my experience of the device.
A future consideration could be to include a scripting language such as a limited implementation as bash, but I personally see hat as unnecessary. This is a great app for the iOS adventurer.
Many overlook it. Myself; a single button calls 911, another logs my nutrition.
Congratulations, you have made it to the end of my word salad.
I’m mainly just annoyed.
I tried for 20 minutes to get one app shortcut to load to my home screen. But every time I tapped “Show on Home Screen” it would take me to instructions on how to do it. This has happened with every short cut I’ve made. Help?
Powerful time saver
I think this is a great little app. I’ve used it to automate a lot of my iOS tasks. The one I use the most is having a ‘Play my Beatles playlist’ right there on the home screen.
Good, but some bugs
Shortcuts is an awesome app for making your own automations, but there are some bugs. Ever since Shortcuts has come out there has been an annoying bug where you would want to share a shortcut and it would prompt you with the usual share menu; messages, mail, etc. If you tapped one of the share options it would ask you if it was OK to make an iCloud link. If you press OK, it would come up with an error message saying ‘To do this, you must be signed into iCloud’, even though I am signed into iCloud on my iPhone. Sharing a shortcut doesn’t work on Mobile Data or WiFi. It would be really good if this would be fixed!
This app
It’s a great app because of the fact that you can download any video on YouTube and it cost nothing and it only takes about 2 minutes or less to do. BIG thumbs up 4 this 1👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Frustratingly close to being really good
Having the app open, then open the shortcut, then run the shortcut is stupid and annoyingly slow.
Why doesn’t the “Make PDF” block work with markup? All markup just disappears from the output.
I’m sure I’ll find more broken stuff as I use it more.
Awesome app!
But it’s missing one thing. Apple Watch integration with an app for Apple Watch and also Siri support on watchOS. Otherwise, it’s a great app! Also can we have a “Touch/Face ID to Continue” block that requires the user to authenticate the following action?
Basic
It would be good if shortcuts could activate by location or at a particular time day.
I’d really like to be able to change my watch face depending on where I am so I have the correct information to hand.
Great app, still has some way to go though!
Good app but needs some features.
Collapsible if statements ect ect
Copy paste inside a shortcut (reusing code within a short cut)
Folders to be able to store away code blocks
Bugs
When playing music, the get now playing sometimes get the previous song. Happens 90% of the time, rerunning the shortcut fixes though.
Amazing app
If AirPlay targeting isn’t going to happen soon, could we please get the option for shortcuts to display the air play picker? Would make music and media shortcuts much stronger
