《尚书》又称《书》、《书经》，是中国第一部古典散文集和最早的历史文献，它以记言为主。《汉书·艺文志》说，《尚书》原有100篇，孔子编纂并为之作序。汉初，有今、古文不同的传本。今文《尚书》29篇，是经师伏生所传。古文《尚书》在汉武帝时出现，比今文《尚书》多出16篇，这16篇后来亡逸了。西晋永嘉之乱后，今文《尚书》散亡。今存于《十三经注疏》的《古文尚书》有58篇，其中的33篇与汉代传本文字大抵相同（只有少数篇章的分合、定名不同），另外25篇是东晋人的伪作。清人孙星衍作《尚书今古文注疏》，广泛汲取前人考订成果，摒弃25篇伪作，将篇目重新厘定为29卷，大抵恢复了汉代《尚书》传本的面貌。《尚书》所记基本是誓、命、训、诰一类的言辞。
