Description
中国科学技术协会（简称"中国科协"），是中国共产党领导下的人民团体，是中国科技工作者的群众组织。中国科学技术协会是由中国科学社、中华自然科学社、中国科学工作者协会和东北自然科学研究会等4个科学团体共同发起，筹备召开中华全国自然科学工作者代表会议（简称科代会）。1950年8月，科代会在北京举行，决定成立“中华全国自然科学专门学会联合会”（简称全国科联）和“中华全国科学技术普及协会”（简称全国科普），推举地质学家李四光为全国科联主席、林学家梁希为全国科普主席。这两个组织于1958年9月，在合并后举行了第一次代表大会，正式成立了“中华人民共和国科学技术协会”。在1980年3月举行的第二次代表大会上，又将团体定名为“中国科学技术协会”。
中国科协现已发展成为拥有按自然科学、技术科学、工程技术及其相关科学的学科组建或以促进科学技术发展和普及为宗旨的167个全国性学会，31个省级科协及广泛的地方、基层组织，430多万会员的科技团体。
