西元1865年英籍宣教師馬雅各醫師，遠渡重洋來到福爾摩沙台灣，不僅將基督教的福音廣傳台灣，也在台南府城成立了台灣第一家西醫院:新樓醫院。
新樓醫院著實在台灣的醫療史寫下不可抹滅的一頁，不論是訓練本地醫師、設立助產士籍看護訓練所、成立鴉片煙戒絕所、麻瘋病治療所及肺病病室、開辦產婆講習所等，促使西洋醫學與醫術不斷在台灣延續下去。
新樓醫院在歷任院長的用心經營下，以及新樓人秉持著本院精神:服待(Service)、愛心(Love)、盼望(Hope) 的默默付出，方能走過百年歲月，直至今日成區域教學醫院的規模。新樓醫院有台南新樓醫院、麻豆新樓醫院(含麻豆新樓護理之家)、新樓安南診所三個院區，提供台南市民完善的醫療服務。
