老子《道德经》共八十一章, 讲述修身立命、治国安邦、出世入世的大道。《道德经》的核心观念人们并不陌生，如无为而治，上善若水，知足常乐，见微知著等等。由于居多因素，一般的人并不能明了和掌握老子的“道”的要义，而从中获益。正如老子自己所说“上士闻道，勤而行之；中士闻道，若存若亡；下士闻道，大笑之”。 香港超人李嘉诚堪称老子所指的上士， 据传媒报道他的居室里悬挂着《道德经》第八章的“居善地、心善渊、言善信、动善时” 的条幅作为自己为人处世的座右铭。
