慕课，英文是“MOOC”，它是由Massive(大规模)， Open(开放)， Online(在线)， Course（课程），这4个英文单词的第一个字母组合而成的，是大规模的网络开放课程，特点是：人人皆学、处处可学、时时能学；学生能找到最合适的学习内容和最喜欢的老师。幕课（moocs）， 这个术语是2008年由加拿大人首先提出，2011年在美国有了重要突破，现在我国各种教育机构都相继推出了自己的资源共享平台。幕课（moocs）成了许多大学不得不去认真研究和应对的新事物，包括学堂在线是清华大学研发的网络开放课程平台，合作伙伴包括北京大学、浙江大学，南京大学和上海交通大学在内的6所亚洲名校赫然在列，这将是一场学习的革命。所有视频都是免费的。
