Description

Amitabha, Sanskrit word, literally means boundless light and boundless life. He is the Buddha in the Land of Ultimate Bliss (Pure Land), in which all beings enjoy unbounded happiness. Amitabha has forty-eight great vows to establish and adorn his Pure Land. People also recite or call upon his name by the time of dying will be born in the Land of Ultimate Bliss with the reception by Amitabha.
《弥陀要解》曰:“一声阿弥陀佛,即释迦本师于五浊恶世所得之阿耨多罗三藐三菩提法。今以此果觉全体授与浊恶众生,乃诸佛所行境界,唯佛与佛能究尽,非九界自力所能信解也。”

净土五经一论
1. 《佛说大乘无量寿庄严清净平等觉经》
2. 《佛说阿弥陀经》
3. 《佛说观无量寿佛经》
4. 《大方广佛华严经普贤行愿品》
5. 《大佛顶首楞严经 大势至菩萨念佛圆通章》
一论为天亲菩萨所造《往生论》。
净土法门,甚广甚大,上中下三根普披,利顿众生全收。九法界众生(菩萨、声闻、缘觉、天、人、阿修罗、畜生、鬼、地狱)若捨此法,上无以圆成佛道;十方诸佛若离此门,下无以普度群萌。一切法门,无不从净土流出;一切行门,无不还归净土。何以见得?
一切法门,皆从《华严经》流出。华严是佛初成正觉时,在菩提树下,甚深禅定中,为四十一位法身大士(已断尽见思二惑、明心见性之菩萨。四十一位次:十住、十行、十迴向、十地、等觉。第四十二位次妙觉,就是佛位)所说的一生成佛之法。
在华严末后之「入法界品」,善财童子参访诸位善知识后,最后来到普贤菩萨座下,蒙其威神加披,所证境界已是等觉菩萨。普贤菩萨以「十大愿王」,劝导善财以及花藏世界的四十一位法身大士,一同往生西方极乐世界,以期圆满佛果。此举表示:往生西方是华严「归宗结顶」之法。所谓「一生成佛」之法,正是求生西方。
净土法门之玄妙,唯有法身大士与菩萨根性的人能接受,声闻、缘觉等小乘圣人都无法接受,何况六道凡夫?因此,佛在其四十九年的教化中,头十二年「阿含期」,只讲小乘经论,並无提及净土。待得弟子们的根性提升了,在接下来的「方等期」,才说出净土三经,使一切凡圣,同事修持,以期现生就能出离娑婆恶世,登彼极乐莲邦。
