Arcane Quest 2 Reviews

Best Casual D&D like game out there.

This is a fun and entertaining game well worth the two bucks to get the full version being that it cheaper than a cup of coffee to get full access. Quick learning curve as well and each adventure in the typically 3-4 part dungeons takes only about 10-15 minutes so it’s a fun time killer on a work break or anytime you have a few minutes to spare. Still you can save your progress at any point during the dungeon so if you don’t have to worry about finishing up all at once. Fun to watch your characters progress and become more powerful as you go, earning gold to buy better gear. So if you like the old style pen and paper type rpg’s this is a great one to get.

Solid Dungeon Crawler

Arcane Quest 2 is a solid dungeon crawler with a few notable issues. Those who played the first game will immediately notice the vastly expanded scope. Characters now level up, improving their stats and abilities over time. Magic users unlock additional spell slots as well, giving you access to new builds. Spells, like weapons and armor are purchased with gold earned by completing dungeons. More advanced gear requires higher level characters. All pretty standard fare but implemented well enough. The dungeon crawling is heavily inspired by pen and paper role playing games. Die rolls determine everything(except, thankfully, for movement, the best gameplay change over the first game). You explore a grid based dungeon, fighting enemies, navigating traps, and collecting loot. The game’s major flaw is that the combat is unbalanced. Enemies and characters tend to have way more defense than attack power. This leads to situations where I spend 15 minutes fighting a single enemy, as neither of us can damage the other. This isn’t an issue of difficulty, mind you. It’s an issue of poor balance. My other complaints are about the story and visuals. The story is simple, which is fine, but it is poorly translated (or written by a non-native English speaker) and often descends into gibberish. The visuals, meanwhile are also simplistic. Their main issue is that the developers use a white overlay to indicate your movement points, while also using white and tan floors. It can sometimes make the experience hard to parse, which can be especially damaging on the occasional missions with a turn limit. Overall I consider this to be an improvement over the first game but still not perfect.

Super fun

Retro gaming at it’s best. I enjoy this game a lot, it reminds me of a “Hero q___” board game I played as a kid.

Much worse than the original

They took a step back with this release. Fixed movement, less carrying capacity, items are permanently lost if the searching character has a full inventory. The last one there is just ridiculous. I’m about to play the third iteration and hopefully whatever brain trust fumbled his or her way through the rules for this version was fired or quit before the third was created.

A couple tweaks would be nice.

I’m having a lot of fun with the game, but I’d like to see an option to have the party move together (following the 1st character). More so, I’d like to see the option to instantly exit the level once all monsters are killed and all loot is found.

Worse than the original!

The first game was really good, but not quite great. I had hoped this one would be what I was looking for. Nope! Every change was for the worse! Graphics went from smooth 3D to cartoony 2D. User interface is clumsier and buggy. Heroes are downgraded. Battles all have pop-ups that you can no longer disable. Total failure. Going to try part 3 next, but part 1 is clearly superior to this crap.

Awesome!!

Game runs smooth, even on old phone (iPhone 4). Autosave feature is nice, & ads are infrequent, non invasive, & dont bog down your system. Playability is challenging/frustrating at first, but once you get the hang of it, it's pretty fun & has tons of replay value.

Addictive leveling RPG

Free version is ok and very playable but unlock the rest of the gang and get rid of the ads and it’s very nice. My favorite group to take in the dungeon is the wizard, dwarf, ranger, and warrior. The cleric is ho-hum unless you find plenty of green potions or give him some other spells. All said, I love looting the dungeons, getting XP for my guys to increase level and skills and buying new gear. My main wish is that you could find some actual gear in the dungeon, even if you can’t equip it until you’ve finished it.

Best of the series!

Great dungeon romp

Addictive and brain exercising. I have to admit that I didn't like it the first time I played it, but it has grown on me. Now I'm complimenting the elf on a good shot, or yelling at the dwarf when a trap explodes in his face (bad day at the office..) The music is uber-epic and enjoyable, and just cuts to absolute silence when the level boss is killed, which I find brilliantly humorous, like you've killed the entire symphony with him. The dungeons may get repetitive, but I figure that's what these adventurers do for a living. If there were a tavern or swimming pool or archery range for these heroes, then the dungeons would remain unexplored and the monsters would breed out of control, and taxes would go up and they'd close down the pool for army funding, and... Ahem, sorry. Excellent tabletop dungeon crawler packed into a mobile device!
