Description

"Best iPad Reference App" -- App Store editorial team. Art Authority for iPad transports you to an enthralling, real-world art museum filled with works by over 1500 of the western world's greatest artists, from ancient times to today. 100,000 paintings and sculptures, organized into eight period-specific rooms, each room a gateway to a whole museum's worth of art. Choose an artist by movement or name, and become instantly immersed in an exhibition devoted just to that artist. Search for and compare different artists' works by title, subject or location, or just wander at random and get lost in the art.
"An experience unlike any other" -- The NY Times. Art Authority's works are professionally framed and hung on textured walls, accompanied by title, date and other details. Works are displayed chronologically, with previews of related items providing added context. You can learn about an artist's life and works, or travel beyond the bounds of a traditional museum and view and compare works in a full-screen slideshow or scrolling thumbnail display. You can see and understand the actual size of works through "Art Real Size," and with "Art Like This" you can even view exhibits of similar works.
Does something really catch your eye? Purchase a museum-approved reproduction through 1000Museums and have it sent to your home!

Excellent Art Reference

Needs AR capability. IAP would be fine for AR function.

Okay

I expected a lot more than what I got. Nice images if your favorite artist is included in the app. Most artists that I was searching for were missing. Not really much at all for modern and contemporary print makers.

Entertaining and informative

This is a terrific app. Enjoyable for random browsing. It also serves as useful reference. I recently used it to look up artists and paintings discussed in a novel I was reading.

I agree with that other fella -- new version is very very crashy. Doesn't work. Pleas fix. Love, Charles

It has not been able to load new content for 5 days and the Art Authority website is not working. Does anybody know what happened to them? I have given the app a high rating because of past experience but will reduce it if it does not start working soon.

This is a wondrous, amazing app which every art lover should have. It exceeds all expectations. So beautiful and with so many features. User friendly. It is my favorite app. Would like to see a couple of the more famous Japanese and other Asian artists added to its extensive selection of paintings.Lovely!!!

Home art gallery

I love this app. Every day I pick a new artist to focus on. The format is great. A mini art gallery where you pick the period you wish to focus on or just skip to a particular favorite artist. It is very easy to use. Each artist is well represented with a number of their works and most of the works have descriptions as well. Each artist also is linked to a Wikipedia write up. If only most museums would have such detailed curation. I also liked that women artists are well represented which is something many art history books fail to do. I have recommended this app to friends and am surprised I am the first to review it.

Hi, Too bad we cannot save anymore to our photos. We should still be able to do it, at least for art of public domain. Very disappointing commercial choice from a great app. I liked to show masterpieces to my friend from my photos, offline... Now, over. Please, fix.

If you love art stop here! Of all the apps I have bought this is by far the best money I have spent. Each illustration can be zoomed in on for a more detailed examination. I rated this 5 stars only because there were no more I could give.
