Artomaton is now a bit beyond version 3 after almost 10 years in development and AI is no where in sight. Watercolor is totally off showing brush strokes and no pooling at all making it more like oil paint. No acrylics. Pencils (color & black) do not look real at all with ugly control of the length and multiple direction of cross hatching. Video speed is cool; but, it discloses just how inaccurate things like watercolor is. The app is a mess, simply put, with little intrinsic value due to how fake things look. The thing is, most “AI” proclaimed image painting apps are like this. They are more or less, image filters that have some control over a filter that bore or less produces a reprint in a specific style that is far from a real world image resulting from sketching, painting, pastel work, etc. No ink either.
If you want an app that alters a picture to make it look different that it really is … this would be okay. But if you want a paint, sketch, ink, drawing program, this one really falls short because you are not drawing or painting.
It is sad that the app is so un-AI, inaccurate, and unrealistic. Paying to be able to store presets is just a slap in the face.

How to use?
This is a very interesting app with a lot of potential and I’d love to give it five stars but I am unable to figure out how to use all of the standard features. This seems to be a shortcoming that you could easily rectify by creating a video or a short, how to explanation.

1st Review 2015 - Update 2021 - Update 2023
I just downloaded the latest update and it has totally screwed-up everything I was accustomed to and I can no longer get the effects I want. It gives a totally different result. How do I go back to the previous update? ———————- Okay, forget my reviews back in 2015. I am now using the app once again and it is incredible... the best there is! I have tried dozens of similar apps and none compare to this one. 2021 has just begun and I plan on enhancing my art this year by utilizing tweaks from Artomaton. ———————————————- 6-17-15. Disappointed in in-app purchase. I thought it would give full access to all but only gives access to individual category. Double purchase to get all. Charging way too much for what you gain!! Also, is it my imagination or is the pencil effects less clear and distinct now? Five stars have been reduced. -------------------- 4-28-15. Great new version BUT terrible bug in this version. After using for a while the canvas goes black and the only way to correct is to completely close and then restart. --------------- 2-12-15. Features added. Better than ever! -------------------- Original post... I own dozens of this type app. This one knocked my socks off by producing some of the best results anywhere. I haven't used it extensively yet but it could prove to be the ultimate app of it's type!

Oh my god, this app is a literal game changer! It can let me see how a drawing or video can be created as a work of art in real time. I’m wondering if i can copy everything the app does on a real piece of paper... i will try it one day when i have the patience!
