Hornet Watch is an app designed to help the early detection of Asian Hornet in the UK following the first confirmed record in September 2016. Asian Hornet is a non-native species within the UK and could have a serious impact on our native insects and honeybees so early detection is important. There are a number of native insects in the UK that look very similar, and are common and widespread. Records of these species are equally welcome to help map their distribution and Hornet Watch provides an identification guide to help determine which species you have seen. Please do include a photograph with your record if possible to help us confirm the identity of the species.

App keeps hanging
Trying to report but every time I go to upload I just get the spinning disc and the app hangs before timing out. I’ve tried registering but the same thing happens. Renders it unusable. Couldn’t find a technical support link either.
irecord sheet
from DEFRA there’s a link to the irecord sheet to record sightings of the Asian Hornet and other specified non-native flora and fauna
Would be good if it worked
Signing up you get a 500 error, and it won’t let you upload.
Link to fact sheet still broken
The link is to the government’s DEFRA site - failure to fix this does not give one a great deal of confidence in the determination of DEFRA to deal with this looming environmental and food security crisis.
Good app but link broken
Good, clear pictures and descriptions to aid comparison/identification but link to Asian Hornet fact sheet is broken.
Broken link
The link to the DEFRA fact sheet about the Asian hornet leads to a "page not found" error on the GOV.UK website.
To report this on the developer's website one needs to register with them. This seems to me to be unnecessary just to report an issue.
Giant horsefly reference.
Dear sir madam. Just a correction to the biting human reference. This fly always bites humans. It will follow you for a mile to bite you and it hurts.
Really bad app.
No ability to send a photo. If there is, I couldn’t see it, which shows that it is bad.
No instructions on how to complete such as:-
- Please tell us where you found this
- do you have a body of the hornet available
Etc
No longer installs
Presumably been so long since any software upgrades have taken place, it won’t install on my iphone running latest iOS
Asian Hornet Review
The guidance related to login and/or change of password is particularly useless. The email message for change is prompt but any attempt to change your password or login is blocked and generally impossible to remedy. I could not even send the review! Please sort out the problems.
