Published by: Astro HQ

Description

Control your Mac using your iPad and Apple Pencil
Astropad Slate turns your iPad into an input device for Mac. Draw, write, and interact seamlessly between your Mac and iPad.
· MOUSE AND TRACKPAD: Control your mouse with Apple Pencil; your Pencil mirrors your Mac cursor. It’s like using your iPad as a giant trackpad!
· DRAWING INPUT FOR ARTISTS: Use your iPad like a no-screen pen tablet. Draw into your favorite desktop creative programs using your Apple Pencil.
· HANDWRITING INPUT: Your handwriting on your iPad transforms into text on your Mac. Write into Slate’s handwriting input box on iPad, and your handwriting will transform into typed text on your Mac.
· GESTURE INPUT: Use one and two-finger touch gestures on iPad to scroll and zoom on your Mac, just like a trackpad.
· APPLE PENCIL HOVER: Slate works with all Apple Pencils. On newer iPad Pro’s, Slate supports hover functionality. On older iPads, Slate uses simulated hover.
___
HOVER: New iPads WITH Apple Pencil hover.
· Move cursor: Move your Apple Pencil over the surface of the iPad.
· Click: Tap your Apple Pencil to the screen to click.
SIMULATED HOVER: Older iPads WITHOUT Apple Pencil hover.
· Move cursor: Lightly drag your Apple Pencil across your iPad screen to move the mouse cursor. The pressure level is adjustable.
· Click: Tap your Apple Pencil to the screen to click.

CONNECT WIRELESSLY OR WITH USB CABLE
· Wired: Connect your Mac and iPad via USB cable for the fastest, lowest latency connection.
· WiFi: Make sure your Mac and iPad are connected to the same WiFi network. Performance is dependent on the quality of your WiFi connection.
· Peer-to-peer: Connect your devices wirelessly and bypass your WiFi router for faster, more stable performance. Follow the connection instructions in the Slate menu.

CHOOSE YOUR SETUP: SCREEN MAPPING OR MOUSE MODE
Slate allows you to choose how your cursor moves on your iPad:
· Mouse Mode (Relative Positioning): Your iPad acts like a giant trackpad. Your cursor mirrors your Apple Pencil/finger movements regardless of location on the iPad.
· Screen-Mapping (Absolute Positioning): The entire screen of your iPad scales to map your entire Mac display. The mapping is adjustable, similar to a traditional pen tablet.

Astropad Slate Pen Tablet Reviews

Doesn't work with apple pencil pro

Everything works except that you can’t draw with Apple Pencil pro

Missing gesture

I would have given this 4 or 5 stars if I could rotate the canvas

First Click Lag

Unhappy n’disgruntled on

United States

There is a terrible delay at beginning of strokes, the app doesn’t register “writing” until pencil begins to move with enough downward pressure to initiate a line. While it tracks well after the initial movement has been recorded, there needs to be an update that reduces the delay so writing is instantaneous with pencil pressure at the start of a new line stroke… otherwise it is rather inconvenient to draw on mac with this application as advertised. For any purchaser who plans to use this as wacom alternate, much frustration will arise.. as you will not understand my comments until after you spend your money to see for yourself.

A gem!

On my iPad Air 5th gen, and combined with screen mirroring, this makes my iPad into a visual graphic tablet. You’ll definitely want to connect via usb—it’s lagless at that point. P2P has a slight lag, WiFi is quite clunky. The app says it doesn’t work on ARM’s, but when I borrowed an i9 laptop to get the Mac app and moved it to my M2 Studio, it was just great. The website wouldn’t let my Studio download the Mac app for some reason. Tsk, tsk, Astro.🤣 A rousing success! Did I mention no subscription?

I'm impressed!

Virtually no lag when connected via usb, and works as expected. I only wish it had some extra features closer to what Wacom offers. Things like customizable shortcuts per app...sort of like the studios on astropad studio, quick keys, and added support for the Apple Pencil Pro's Tap & squeeze gestures. On the downside, it's practically unusable when connected via wifi. But overall, a good replacement for pen tablets.

Almost perfect

ive wanted something like this for. awhile now since i use astropad studio in a similar way, so im super happy to have something like this that does exactly what i need! the only things i think could be improved are adding double tap shortcuts, and theres a small but noticeable lag when first beginning a stroke. for slower strokes its not that big a deal but its extremely noticeable when making lots of quick strokes. thank you team for making this!

A dream in the making

Even using USB connection, mouse mode is very jerky; had to use mapping mode. Scrolling is jerky too; have to scroll slowly. It bounces sometimes. Bad UI for visually impaired folks; should allow black on white or themed. At least you give lines for handwriting. Can’t have app for Mac auto connect with ipad via login items. Have to reconnect when switching iOS apps. Flawed but somewhat useful. I consider the payment an investment. I assume with a M3 iMac and a M2 ipad pro it rocks.

Seems to work pretty well

Would really love to see three finger swipe for Mac to replace magic track pad but otherwise pretty much does what it says on the tin

I’ve used a Wacom Intuos for years and this is very similar

Works as expected, can navigate Mac cursor with iPad and draw with my pencil

My Mac at my pen tip ❤️

I love to be able to use my Mac with my Apple Pencil. It’s so much better for my wrist and hand ergonomics in general. Slate is good way to take a break from the mouse
