Most frustrating, wrongheaded travel app ever

The content? Amazing. The app experience? Frustrating at best, trip-ruining at worst. Some of the odd choices: 1. You can’t filter the map view by custom list. You can view the list on a map, but only by going into the list first. So no quick switching between views. 2. When viewing a map filtered to “been there,” EVERY LOCATION shows on the map until you keep zooming in, and only when you get zoomed in to a certain level does it stop showing all to show only yours. Same with filtering on “want to go.” So, for example, Iceland shows 148 items when filtered for “been there,” until I zoom in and in and then it says 51 and then eventually it shows… the 3 I’ve been to. Why? It’s completely useless! 3. You can’t view the location in a decent map program. You CAN view directions, which then drops a pin in Google Maps and shows directions, but doesn’t allow you to save the pin or location. Again, completely useless if I want to save it in my Maps while traveling. 4. You can’t copy the name or address. So, again, no shortcut to getting these into a decent map program. You have to open the Maps app, type in the name or address, and just hope it actually shows up (it works maybe 2/3 of the time). 5. Default opening view is some random place on the other side of the world, instead of someplace close by. 6. Related Places are completely UN-related. Instead of showing, say, other restaurants in Athens when you’re looking at a restaurant in Athens, it will show a folk museum in Ireland or a cemetery in Estonia. Those are just the ones at the top of my brain right now.

Exploring Gem!

We love this app as we travel fulltime in our RV. It’s always cool to open this app when we arrive at our new destination to find interesting places around us.

Fun & Interesting

I love this app! On a recent cross-country road trip, I kept the app open and checked it throughout the day. We found so many interesting spots to visit that we would have missed had it not been for AO. Some historic, some fun & quirky.

One of my favorite apps, not optimized on newer iPhones

progresscity on

United States

I recently had to get a new phone due to my old one crapping out on me and just opened this app for the first time on it. Unfortunately it is almost unusable on my iPhone 16 Pro Max. I guess the UI doesn't account for the cutout at the top not being there anymore which causes the search bar to be stuck behind the clock, battery, and middle blob thing at the top of the screen and therefore inaccessible. Hopefully they can fix this so that I can search for things in places I plan to visit soon!

Doesn’t layoff well on IPhone SE

Looks likes it could be good but it doesn’t layout well on an iPhone SE. The screens are to wide and are cut off on the edges.
