Incredible

This is an amazing app and it’s not so hard to use it. When you first open it it explains you the uses of it and what can you and how to do it (which nowadays is VERY important, because things keep getting more complicated). Overall is a pretty good-looking and an easy app to help you write things with many uses. I like it and I will recommend to anyone who needs to write on computer!

Wonderful

This app is great for writers who want a blank screen to focus on writing. But I also want to mention the admin. Recently my computer crashed and all my open files went blank including months of writings I had on Author (I know I know I should back them up). I emailed the admins of the app and they immediantly responded and told me how to recover my files. I can't describe how happy I was to find my writings. I recommend this app 10/10.

Love this app but wish it worked on my iPad

I love this app. Very intuitive and easy to use after putting in a little time to explore and watch the video. My only quibble is that I do a lot of writing on my iPad when I am out and about. Wish Author worked on iOS.

Worst UI ever, no onscreen guidance or cues at all

I have all three of this company's products, Author, Liquid and Reader, and I've watched the developer videos. I can't find a way to get any value out of any of the three. Lots of blank screens to start any task, usually defaulting into one of many "modes"--like, say, map or write, but there are no cues as to how to start, no templates, and overall list of the other modes that are supposed to be accessible, for example bringing in an excerpt from a pdf document and citation. I see positive reviews, but not all that many. This suggests that the very nice and thoughtful developer has a small following, but this product is not at all ready to "cross the chasm" to more mainstream users. By the way I'm not a nube, and if I can't figure this out--and I have tried and tried, I wonder if there are perhaps thousands of people like me who try this and give up. I work in technology research, am a part-time scholar with a doctorate.

Perhaps the Perfice Editor

The combination of a capable editor, the unique find command, and the Map is a match made in heaven. And the developer responded to a support request in less an hour ON A SUNDAY!

Great for academics!

Author is a well-crafted and interesting program! I'm an academic who's been looking for a word processor that can handle shorter pieces. I use Microsoft Word for papers, but I find it a clunky tool for outlining or composing brief essays meant to sharpen my own understanding of a concept. Author has a beatiful interface; easy to use; automatically tracks citations. And its incorporation of Engelbart's thinking makes it immensely promising. Use it in conjunction with Reader! I can't wait to see how both applications develop.

Not worth it

I just used it once then i deleted the app. The pages are neat but inaesthetic. I am really disappointed.

Very Elegant and Underrated

This is a lovely, lovely word processor. I hope the developer continues to explore the possibilities of this format. It is actually quite radical, a true departure from the concept of the word processor, let alone the format. I think it may take people time to take it in, but I hope people make the effort. I want this app to stay. I am an academic writer, and I couldn't have dreamed up a better writing app. It is so lovingly crafted and detailed and elegant. I am so grateful for the work and thought and energy you've put into this beautiful word processor. If you are a writer, you should give this app a try. Good writing and elegance of tools go together.

The 21st century way to write academic papers

Author completely removes the dreaded work of organizing and adding citations to a paper. Simply by using its companion app Reader, one can add as many referrences as needed to support an idea or statement with one shortcut and one click. Brilliant!!
