Trust me, I’ve tried them all. AVPlayer is just perfect. The customisable gesture interface has ruined me for other video apps. The playback speeds, the PiP support, the formats it plays. Really really can’t beat this app. Long may it last.

Works perfectly with .avi and .mkv files, one of the only apps that does and I have tried lots. It is a little bit out of sync when playing back 720p .mkv files but this is due to a lack of processing power not the app itself. Overall it has an excellent user interface loads of options and was well worth the money. I would have given 5 stars but for one small thing - there is a button that allows you to stream the audio from your iPhone to Apple TV while playing video's but it does not stream video which makes it only useful for music playback via Apple TV. I does however have multiple options for video out via cable and allows you to set resolution etc. Note: if you are playing back HD Video particularly .mkv make sure to kill any apps running in the background that may be using processing power - not usually a problem with .avi or lower resolution video.
