About BA-1
The Legacy:
BA-1 is based on a portable 1980s synth with a toylike appearance and a gritty sound. Despite its small size, it left a big mark on music history, while still flying somewhat under the hype radar. The original has been used as a secret weapon for bubbly synth textures by some of Sweden’s most successful pop producers of the past two decades. It was also a staple of 1990s digital dancehall and beloved by the indietronica scene for its raw lo-fi quality. The original hardware has never been properly captured in software form. So for our first ever synth, we started there.
The Sound:
In keeping with our motto ”it’s an evolution, not an emulation”, we modeled the hardware with the greatest possible accuracy, before carefully upgrading it with new and useful features. A second analog-modeled oscillator, FM, polyphony, and more, help to vastly expand the sonic palette of the original. All while keeping its signature sound unspoiled.
Additionally, BA-1 lets you drain the battery, bend the circuits, and use the built-in speaker – for an authentic lo-fi aesthetic that you could normally only get with hardware.
The Effects:
If you know our company, you’ll know that effects are our specialty. So we’ve treated BA-1 with an FX section worthy of its own plugin. The effects chain is inspired by budget 1980s rack hardware and captures the lo-fi charm of the home studio scene of the era. The overdrive is modeled after a guitar pedal, while the delay, reverb and chorus effects are based on cheap, but amazing, digital rack units.
In BA-1, the effects are not an afterthought but an ingrained part of the sonic signature.
The Simplicity:
BA-1 is simple, but surprisingly tweakable. We’ve put great effort into tuning all parameters to be in the perfect sweet spot. This results in a rewarding programming workflow where tweaking BA-1 is a lot of fun and you’ll create new patches on repeat.
And if a simple interface is not fast enough, you can always use the smart ‘Re-Gen’ feature. Hit Re-Gen and BA-1 will automatically create new and musically tuned patches with every click.
We hope you'll enjoy this new Baby Audio release!

Sound packs for iOS

Why can’t we buy the sound packs from the Mac version just like you can on any other iOS synth ?

Sounds and look are great! midi learn features and a decent manual- leave a lot to be desired. I would have expected more from a $20 app. I’ll change my review when I see any updates to that. A work around for midi learn can be achieved in AUM for those needing that. Update- dope synth, great shiny update!

I get it. Everyone who’s anyone uses this synth and swears by it. Maybe it’s an iOS thing but this overdriven screamer cuts through a mix in all the wrong ways. I give it three stars sheerly due to the hype but really, I can’t see any clothes.

Not sure why I saw a few bad reviews on this! This plugin is spectacular, and It’s been working flawlessly for me on Logic Pro! I can already tell I’m going to make so many great songs with this plugin!

My go to synthesizer. It has character, with plenty of sweet spots. Can’t do everything, but that’s not what I’m looking for.

This synth is really good.

Been doing this iOS thing since the beginning and have anything that’s worth having on my iPad. A crap ton of great synths available for iOS and a lot of other tools that are mandatory for this platform. I gotta say regardless of this synths shortcomings I love it too bits. The super limited interface forces me to work not harder but more thoughtfully. The sound of it completely exceeded what I thought it might be. BabyAudio is quickly becoming my favorite set of tools based on fun factor and end result. This synthesizer sounds amazing and sits well in the mix for sure. Recommended.

Interface is not good IMHO

Sounds great but the controls are just too small on my iPad 8 which is a decent-sized screen. The waveform and speaker are a lot of wasted space and are not as important as the controls. Minimize or remove them and increase the controls proportionally and you might have something.

This app is not done. Really, I mean it’s lacking the regular features that audio units should have. That being said, while everyone else is waiting around for updates I decided to just sample the sounds i make with it into a Digitakt and its very nice. The sound that comes from BA-1 is warm and fuzzy.
