Description

We hope you find this app useful for making tram reservations, viewing ferry schedules, checking the ferry on-time status and getting information about arriving and departing Bald Head Island, to help make your trip smooth and enjoyable.
On February 25, 2022, Bald Head Island Transportation, Inc. (BHIT) provided initial public notification as required by law of a change in checked-baggage policies ordered by the North Carolina Utilities Commission (NCUC). The NCUC order becomes effective April 1, 2022. However, please note that well in advance of formal implementation of the new baggage policies and prior to strict enforcement, BHIT will communicate any process changes affecting passengers. During the 2022-2023 timeframe, BHIT anticipates implementing numerous process changes necessary to improve service delivery, increase reliability, and enhance the customer experience. BHIT will initially focus on internal processes before expanding to baggage and passenger delivery operations, tram reservation integration, and electronic ticketing. BHIT will share all process changes affecting the traveling public well in advance of implementation.

Missing an important use-case

The app doesn’t handle the common situation of already being on the island and needing to buy a “day pass” to the mainland. I’ve been told this is because there’s a fear that people would abuse or misuse these tickets from the mainland, but that’s all easily avoidable — I say this as a longtime software developer. It also doesn’t seem to allow for the maintenance of a profile so that you wouldn’t have to fill in the same, repetitive, unchanging information with every purchase. @DevTeam: I’d be happy to discuss all of this at length.

App is crap so far

It needs - add an account so I can save all of my info and don’t have enter it from scratch every time - make booking a tram more prominent. Don’t stick it near adding over sized luggage. It’s a little more impt. - add one way ferry and tram booking - remove the stuff that’s not needed, like my dogs weight and breed - the app takes over media and will stop music and videos

Terrible

I can’t pull up my tickets in the app. yesterday, the boat left early without me and my reservation and made me an hour late for work. are developers ever going to fix the app so that works properly?

Basic UX

Cannot tell which direction the ferries are moving (previous website showed direction of ferry) No alerts provided. Alerts of when the ferry is late or confirmation of when the tram will pick you up is important (was highlighted by BHI Transport at community meeting) Cannot tell which ferry is contractor vs passenget. Cannot tell is ferry is late.

Please go back to the old way. This is a horrible system for people that live on the island!!

This is without a doubt the worst ferry app possible

I’m a homeowner. You cannot book one ways. You can’t book tram one way. You cannot change reservations if you are running late one or both ways easily. Staff need to be able to count on their ferry and not be on standby. There is no way guest to the island will be able to figure this out. I don’t know why I’m surprised that Private Equity thought rolling out this half baked product during prime season was a great idea. Your guys are the worst. Thanks for 2008 and your continued failing of the public. Put the old system back in place until you figure this out. Regards, Karen Capel, Attorney at Law

Need to be able to book a 1 way trip. I don’t always know when I’m leaving the island.

Homeowners don’t have required departure

This app needs massive improvements . As a homeowner, I don’t have a fixed departure date but I am forced to enter one and then the tram shows up to pick me up when I am not leaving. We need some way to book one way to the island with no departure date.

Inconsiderate

corrine.powell on

Poor integration and even worse timing. This app is about as reliable as the ferry itself. This system cares very little about helping the workers (the actual people who make the island an enjoyable place to visit) travel to and from work.
