Excellent alternative to analog methods
I use this app all the time. It has saved me a lot of time performing curve speed advisory reviews. We have compared the results with our analog ball bank and found they both correlate very well.
Yes, Ballbank is completely free and it doesn't have any in-app purchases or subscriptions.
Not enough reviews to make a reliable assessment. The app needs more user feedback.
Ballbank is free.

First off, I’ve really enjoyed using this app. I’ve only run into three issues while using it. The first is when trying to export the data files. I had the files selected and clicked the export button, but nothing happened. I realized that the issue was I had deleted my “Mail” app that came installed on my phone. Once I reinstalled that “Mail” app the export button worked and I was able to email myself the files. The only other issue I’ve had is how the data files are organized. It looks like they’re sorted by time of day, which can be confusing when you have multiple days worth of data. It’s tricky to go back and remember which location was started at what time and day. Maybe there could be a way to give the files a name and then sort based on that or at least sort by date and not time. Lastly, it seems like when I export the files there are multiple readings at a single location. Specifically, it looks like there are 10 readings per coordinate pair, where everything is the same between the readings except for the Ballbank value. All of this extra data makes the post-processing kind of annoying. With all of that said, it’s definitely the best Ballbank app that I’ve found. Thanks for making it!
Data collection and video functionality appears to work great. I am having issues exporting the data to a text file. The screen will let me check the files I want to upload but when I press the button nothing happens.
I’ve need a ball bank indicator for decal projects and was excited to find this app. It works great!
I really like the ability to video a ball bank run - but you need to have a power cord if you intend to Do more than a couple of curves - I used 30% of my battery in a half hour
Incredibly useful app. But stopped working for me unfortunately. After a few test runs when I click record, the app is unresponsive. Also within saved data when I hit export, again, unresponsive. On test runs I had hit save, and it seems the videos are nowhere to be found. Running on iPhone 7 with iOS 11.0.3. Any advice would love to use this app if I can get it to work.
Finally - an easier way to get ball bank data on curves. Anyone familiar with the FHWA methods for estabilishing advisory speeds knows the difficulty in keeping the vehicle at a constant speed, while trying to reading a moving target (the inclinometer or ball bank) and all of the other inherent possibilities for inaccuracy. Of the 6 FHWA methods for setting advisory speeds, 4 relate to or directly involve a "ball bank" (or inclinometer reading). By the way, the FHWA really needs to update their procedure explanations - they reference out of date software, and who uses the TTI Compass Method - as if ballbanking isn't hard enough without taking measurements 1/3 and 2/3 thru a corner)This ap not only records the run, but displays (and importantly saves the data) on g- force, max angle, and smoothed angle. (Although, I would like to learn more about the "smoothing" used) Because this Ap has the ability to record a video of each "run" going around a particular corner, it gives us the ability to go over and document which increases accuracy. I don't usually do reviews, but this is definitely something that the iphone-ipad allows us to leap frog our technology forward (sort of the way the robotic station in surveying has changed surveying). I compared this ap data to a Riekers inclinometer - it was easy because I could record the Riekers in the video on the dash with the ap and compare directly. While the readings weren't exactly the same they both gave the same conclusion for the particular curve I was tasked at looking at (i.e the curve needs a 30mph curve warning sign). Thank you Christopher Dry - whoever you are. The only bad thing is that I would get strange reading every once in awhile - so maybe there are some updates in future?
This is a really useful app, but why is the iPad 4 not compatible with it? it'd be a lot more useful to me if it was. The same can be said for the VCAP-Photo/Video app.
