Barclaycard FAQ
Is Barclaycard free?
Yes, Barclaycard is completely free and it doesn't have any in-app purchases or subscriptions.
Is Barclaycard legit?
⚠️ The Barclaycard app has poor ratings and negative feedback. Users seem unsatisfied with its performance or features.
This is by far the worst banking app I have ever used. Difficult to see your statement, constant technical issues. Can’t pay anything towards the balance until weeks after it’s gone on, but rather than state that you get a “an error has occurred” message. Literally every other major banking app is better.
Buggy and almost unusable
Good the have an app to manage spending but ever since I’ve had this app I’ve not been able to access my transactions (it says connection lost every time). Paying off a balance is tricky too. There seems to be elements of the app that are specifically designed to make you loose track of spending and oversight of how much you need to pay back. There are other apps from competing banks that just outperform this one in every way.
Bad flaw when confirming payment
When I have to confirm payment in my bank’s app, (Nationwide) and then I go back to the Barclaycard app, the app has lost all progress of my payment and is back on the Home Screen so I don’t know if the payment has completed.
Review
Always been good service never had any issues with barclays
Barely functional
This app barely functions. Errors and crashes all the time. Can’t use Open Banking with other apps as any request just opens this app and does nothing.
Hard to see transactions
I don't use my Barclay card that much as I really don't like this app. Unlike my Halifax or Santander account apps you can't easily see your transaction activity. Also it takes days to see confirmation in your account of payments made onto the account. It's really rubbish and antiquated. You have to open a 'statement' which looks like a paper statement you have to enlarge 😆
Another legacy bank can’t work out registering/logging in ….
Managed to register on my phone, though I annoyingly had to upload photo ID - this strangely wasn’t needed to access the website.
Every so often you are blocked from FaceID and have to use a very insecure 5 digit password!
The app is ok, has all the main functions and pending transactions is very handy.
However, trying to login with my iPad is impossible. Continually get error messages, even though I’m using PinSentry from my phone.
Update has broken the app
The latest update of the app has broken it
Terrible UX and buggy
2* simply because it works for the main functions. Many other areas are either buggy, or offer poor UX due to outdated and unnecessary security features and locks. For example, you cannot paste card details in when copied from another app. So to add a payment card, instead of being able to actually copy details (eg from another banking app) and be certain of the correct number being added, it has to be manually typed. Worst still, whenever you leave the screen you are in on the app, it will lock you out and take you back to the start. So in the scenario above, you’d either need to memorise the card details, or write them down! Totally counter to actual security. Error messages on direct debit setup despite correct details, and no suggestions to fix. The constant booting back to start when you leave the app is really frustrating. Bad experience offering no security benefits.
Steadily getting worse over the years
The app, the card itself, and the customer support from this company have all been worsening since I got my original card several years ago. I have just been forced to take a newer and significantly less beneficial iteration of the Rewards card I have always held, and in doing so, lost the ability to use any card on my account at all for over a week. The old card has been cancelled, no new one has arrived, and I can’t even use Apple Wallet because there is a provisioning problem that they still haven’t fixed yet. When I contacted them about that they originally asked a bunch of moronic questions and acted baffled that Apple Wallet wasn’t working, told me I would get a call about that in a couple of days, then cancelled my new card and issued another. When that still hadn’t shown after 5 business days I contacted them again, and entered into the most braindead chat I have had in years with someone who first told me that the card I hadn’t received should arrive by the 18th then went on to ask me “what issue” I had with Apple Wallet after me describing it precisely, then finally asking if I had my new card to add to Apple Wallet a different way (the card I had started the chat by saying I still didn’t have). Absurd nonsense. Will never use this company again.
