Bark Kids

The companion app to Bark

Published by: Bark Technologies

Description

Bark Kids is the free child companion app for both Bark and Bark Jr. To use it, you’ll need to have an established Bark account and install Bark Kids on your child’s device. Here are the features this app enables:
SCREEN TIME MANAGEMENT
Families can set healthy time limits and create schedules for when their children’s devices can connect to the internet (through both cell service and Wi-Fi).
WEB FILTERING
Our web filter lets you select which websites your child can access on their devices. You can allow or block specific sites — or even whole categories like streaming services, online gaming, sexual content, and more.
GPS-POWERED LOCATION TRACKING
Bark’s robust location tracking enables you to track your child in real time on a map. You can even find out if they’re stationary, walking, biking, or moving in a car.
CHECK-INS
Check-Ins are an easy way for families to get peace of mind when their kids are out and about. Rather than sending a "Did you get there?" or "Where are you?" text, you can rely on a GPS-based location confirmation from your children to verify that they've safely arrived at their destinations. It can even give you step-by-step directions via Google Maps so you can meet them where they are if necessary.
PERSONAL ACCOUNT CONNECTIONS
The Bark Kids app allows kids to connect their own accounts to Bark’s monitoring service (not available with Bark Jr). By allowing them to connect directly to our monitoring service, they get more privacy without having to share their usernames or passwords.

WHAT PARENTS ARE SAYING
- "My wife and I LOVE Bark. We've had some tough but productive conversations with our 13-year-old son. It's proving to be extremely valuable." — Josh L.
- “It’s just another set of protections we as parents give our kids for the digital environment (or as my 10-year-old calls it, a “cell phone seat belt”). My oldest is a 9th grader, and while I trust her, I’ve come to realize through the alerts that some of her friends aren’t truly her friends. It’s led to some amazing conversations about choosing friends wisely and recognizing toxic people. While she wasn’t for Bark at first, she’s since said she’s grateful that I saw those messages because it reaffirmed what she was feeling but didn’t know how to verbalize without sounding sensitive.” — Bark Parent
- "Bark notified me that my young daughter had unknowingly revealed her phone number to strangers on Twitter. The fact that Bark notified me was impressive and led to an informative discussion with her the same day." — Jon B.
- “Since Bark alerted us to the suicidal language used in the Google doc that was being used in a chat document with a friend, we have seen both a pediatrician and a licensed counselor. We are hopeful for a positive outcome. Thanks to Bark for letting us peek into our child’s mind!” — Bark Parent
- “This app is a lifesaver! It has allowed us to catch so many “red flags” in the content my kids have accessed on their devices and in their interactions with friends and other people online that I wouldn’t have ever known about otherwise. The big difference between Bark and other “Parental Control” software is that Bark allows your kids to have so much more privacy. It doesn’t show you everything they do, but sends an instant alert regarding any activity that might be concerning. Highly recommended!” — Bark Parent

This intrudes my personal space so much I can’t even text my friend without my mom being all up in my business

Awful app

I get that my parents want to protect me from stuff but this is too much. My apps never want to work even when the “Free Time” is on. It’s always glitching out my phone and none of my apps work anymore. Pinterest is the main victim. Aside from that it also doesn’t block bad content it just sends it to parents. That doesn’t help anyone. I don’t want to send my friends anything in case i say something wrong and it exposes all of my messages. My internet never works and to get stuff to work i have to offload bark but then most of them only work for around 10 minutes. Then they proceed to glitch again. If you want to get your kids to trust you then this isn’t the choice. I need my privacy and this shows that my parents don’t trust me. If they don’t trust me then they shouldn’t have gotten me a phone. I’m only aloud to have Pinterest so that’s what i used to spend all my time on until i can’t use it anymore. So now i have to play some no wifi games and teens don’t want to do that all the time. I completely understand why this app has such bad ratings. Sometimes i can’t even use google. Nothing works and it’s basically the same as taking your child’s phone away. Getting this app is so awful since your kid can’t do anything so it’s the same as their phone being dead and them not having a charger. Nothing. Works. Anymore. I’m tired of this app. Please take it off the AppStore for us teens

It’s not as bad as stated in other reviews

This app is specifically to help protect children and does exactly what it says. I’m grateful.

I hate this app

Hi, I’m just going to start this by stating I’m a 13 year old girl that was doing things I should not have been. Instead of talking about it I had this app put on my phone, and it is the worst thing to have ever been invented. It alerts about content that is not concerning, and I get in trouble because it says I am doing things that I am not. And instead of protecting kids from doing bad things and from people talking to me that shouldn’t, it teaches kids to work around the app and find loopholes. Bark is an app that only causes more trust issues and more of a gap between the guardian/guardians that are spying and their kid. Yes I should not have done what I was doing, but this app isn’t protecting me from doing it again. Common sense is. All this app did is make me paranoid and scared every time I get picked up by my mom because I don’t know what this app has been telling her. Great job bark, I’m scared to get in trouble for things I didn’t do!!

This app invades my privacy so much it’s actually stressful

It’s just not worth it

Burrito boy266 on

Yeah sure it shows your texts and sensitive content to parents, but It’s not worth the sacrifice. I have a brand new IPhone 16 and the bark vpn makes so many unnecessary things not work and makes my phone run like it has 1 bar of WiFi even if I’ve got more WiFi than I could ever want. Coming from a teenage boy, parents — try something else and save us kids the trouble please 🙏

Stop

Keittttyyy on

I read reviews and seen developers talk about some keeping kids safe. I’m 16 being treated like a kid stop punishing kids js because grown people don’t have self control and cause danger for kids. You give these apps to the wrong kind of parents lack of trust is a very common problem apps like this only make kids dislike their strict parents even more js stop there is a difference between keeping kids safe and limiting a child to life. We can’t go outside since there are kidnappers nd stuff so now we have tech and can’t even have it. Stop robbing people of life. Wrd

Terrible
