Basmo.Reading Tracker Reviews
Kindle Highlight Sync Not Working
I really wanted to love this app, but my Kindle highlights will NOT transfer over. I’ve linked and unlinked my account but still nothing. It would be nice if my progress reading in Kindle transferred too. The main reason I got the app was to keep track of highlights and refer back to them easily. The fact that this feature doesn’t work is a huge issue. And no updates for a year? Is anyone working on this anymore?
LOVE BASMO
I really love how organized Basmo is. I think it’s simple, and not too busy like a lot of other reading tracking apps I’ve tried out. I would love if Basmo added a questionnaire where us readers can answer questions to get more book recommendations. The app StoryGraph has that option, and I think Basmo would benefit from adding something similar to it. I don’t use StoryGraph because I find it stressful to use. Basmo is just right for me <3
Love it! Just can’t invite people 🤷♀️
I’ve used this app for a few months now and have been obsessed with it. Easy it track my reading and gives me some encouragement to pick up a book! I was planning on inviting my friend so that we could read together but couldn’t seem to get the link through. When she pressed it, it sent her to the App Store and didn’t get to add me. I would love to track our reading together but can’t with this bug!! Plz fix it as soon as you can 🙏🏼🤍
Will rate higher if
This year I started listening to Audio books this month and the timer doesn’t do more than 10 hours. Some of my audio books are up to 24hrs, I want to be able to accurately track. If it’s updated to add as many hours as needed this rating will change to a 5 star.
Love the app wish there was a little more
I love this app and it’s helped me to track where I can see how long I’m taking to read a book or how much I should read to finish a book on a certain date. I do wish there was a way I can use my Apple Watch to start the timer and put how many pages I’ve read. I really like using this app especially with the ai that I sometimes use when reading philosophy books and I’m confused what I just read. Bookly was an app I’ve considered over this one due to the Apple Watch feature but I just can’t part with the ai and simpleness of using.
Updated Review 26 December 2023
I’ve been using Basmo for two years. There have been additions and updates that are excellent. I wanted to have a way to pause a session and now have that ability. There are a few more reactions, and if none of them fit how I feel, I write a note. The AI feature is great. It never gives spoilers but does answer specific questions. I don’t use it for every book; I use it when something I’m thinking is important to understand the storyline. I ask a specific question: when reading One Hundred Years of Solitude, I asked who was the main character. The explanation that there was no one main character gave nothing away but helped me understand the narrative flow. I loved that book and had tried reading it as least five times in the past.
Initially, I had some problems, but after posting a disappointed review, the owner contacted me. There was some confusion on both sides, and he helped me get it straightened out. The one recommendation I made - having the ability to pause a session - is something they are working on. I’m enjoying it and glad I signed up. There could be more emoji feelings such as confused, disturbed, satisfied, excited - because awesome, happy, and sad are rather limiting.
Glitches
New to Basmo. It never gave me the free trial. Had I known I would have perhaps waited. I find the app to be very glitchy from syncing to Kindle (keeps adding books over and over - had to turn the feature off), it also does not save a lot of information added manually (such as adding where book was borrowed from or who lent it out to). I had high hopes.
A required reading contract?
I just downloaded this, and that it sets up a required contract with yourself is such a turnoff. I enjoy reading. Having a forced contract make this feels like a formal chore that’s based on quantity rather than quality, and it takes the enjoyment out of just reading. I don’t need a contract; I just want to track my reading, write notes about books, and keep a to-read list. Good heavens, why make it a chore to do?
Great Reading Coach!
The developers really thought about the design. The encouragement from the timer to list and notes are really cool features that integrate nicely together. The beta chat ai is a great start and can’t wait to see where they take this! Long term improvements may be chatting bot with your notes or export notes good reads integration would be cool too. I would recommend to anyone who loves apps and loves to read. I say bravo 👏🎉
It’s good!
I love the app!
Two things:
1. Make it visible of how many pages I need to read daily to finish my book by my finish goal.
2. Add a rating system to books we finish to rate how much we liked the book and what elements we liked about it.
