Yay for direct
But the search is kinda clunky and it doesn’t have items I know exist in store. Works overall!
Yes, BerkeleyBowl is completely free and it doesn't have any in-app purchases or subscriptions.

i love berkeley bowl and was excited to learn about this app, but the payment option limits are incredibly disappointing. the app’s interface is good and simple but i can’t use ebt to pay so it’s basically useless for me. plus, nowhere in the FAQs stated what kind of payments were accepted so i had to build my whole order just to learn that i couldn’t pay for it. i’ll still be shopping at the bowl, but i’m frustrated that during this very busy weekend i’m basically shuttered from the option that would make my life easier. good thing i’m not physically disabled and actually can make it to the grocery store! but what about our disabled friends who rely on ebt to buy their groceries? do they *have* to shop at big box stores instead of supporting local businesses, just bc those stores have the infrastructure to accept their payment?
Best produce anywhere! Absolute life save these past years. The app has its quirks but is easy enough to learn. Thank you everybody involved!
Cannot shop with this. Shocking!
The good: it is possible to shop with this app and get great bb groceries delivered promptly without leaving the house. The bad: the app is an unpleasant experience. Specifically, finding products (which is really the first main user need in the app) is not well executed. The search makes no sense (why are there 2 levels of tabs?). Search results seem quite poor (I searched for “dried beans” and got almost entirely canned beans in the results). Clicking on the “categories” shows only a random smattering of the products in that category (I clicked the “coffee beans” category and got like 10 results, whereas searching for “coffee” for me far more whole bean results). And browsing products causes my (relatively new) iPhone to get super hot???? So the shopping aspect is unpleasant. But if you grit your teeth and find your items, checkout and delivery updates work well.
Love Berkeley Bowl! I’m delighted to be able to order from my favorite grocery store online for pickup or delivery. However, the app is so inefficient that if I’m short on time, I shop at Amazon/Whole Foods:(. I’d much rather keep my business with BB. The search and filter functions on the app are very inefficient. The search function pulls up a lot of random, irrelevant products that I have to scroll through to find the product I want. The filter function often doesn’t pull up the products I need, so I end up searching for them by Department, which is much slower. I hope you’ll consider making improvements. Love BB!
A few items were priced a bit higher than on Instacart, but overall the prices are better directly through the store’s app, since they don’t tack more onto their in-store prices (or so I was told) like IC does. However, it was my experience that the limitations of their app made shopping much slower and a bit frustrating, so I believe that wiped out the benefits of the cost savings. The descriptions of most grocery items are sparse or non-existent, which makes it difficult to try new products. The search function isn’t very user-friendly, especially when looking for replacement items. The text box to add delivery instructions is limited to 150 characters, so I had to edit mine a few times to make it fit. I was also disappointed that ApplePay wasn’t offered as a payment method. I hope their shoppers will chat with me as they shop. Although I’ll continue to shop at the amazing and wonderful Berkeley Bowl, it won’t be with their app.
There is no search bar to allow me to search for the items I want. I have to search manually through arbitrary sections. Many items I was not able to find at all. The app quit once during use. It would not allow me to enter a new address. Only at the end did I learn that there is a $10 delivery fee - I still don’t know if a larger order (had I been able to find all my items) works have made delivery free. In an affluent town for a very popular store after two years of Covid (I need delivery so as not to infect others) I’m shocked you can’t do better.
Love the service
I was so excited to find out this app existed. I want to shop at Berkeley bowl forever but living in Richmond makes it a long outing. So far it’s been a huge time saver and I’m really appreciative that it exists! Thank you BBowl! There are just a few things I can’t find on the app which is why I gave it 4 stars: alternative types of bananas/plantains of which there are many in the store, purple sweet potatoes. So far that’s all I’ve noticed from the foods I regularly buy. Hope that more products can be added!
