BJJBuddy FAQ
Is BJJBuddy free?
Yes, BJJBuddy is completely free and it doesn't have any in-app purchases or subscriptions.
Is BJJBuddy legit?
🤔 The BJJBuddy app's quality is mixed. Some users are satisfied, while others report issues. Consider reading individual reviews for more context.
I use this app to track my days at my BJJ gym since we can’t wear a fitness tracker (such as an Apple Watch) and I love the app. It tracks how many times you rolled, how many were in the class, notes on technique, how long each roll was, and you can even get into the nitty gritty of every sweep, takedown, submission, or tap. My issue is that while the workout will count to the exercise ring for my Apple Watch, the integration for the calorie burn isn’t there so I have to add it in manually to ensure I’m hitting my “move” goal for the watch and for other fitness apps. It would be great if that could be addressed and fixed for a 5 star review!
Great app, little buggy
Started using this app day one of jiu Jitsu training. Every roll, every place. Haven’t found a school not in the list yet, great job keeping up with that, appreciated. There are some bugs but they aren’t show stoppers: energy levels don’t all work for instance, or choosing all in the data only gives you the last 12 months, not all.
Overall the app is pleasing to look at, easy to use and does a good job tracking and displaying my data. Recommended to others.
Thank you and I hope you keep developing the app.
Matt
UX is just not good. Can’t edit my first entry. Not intuitive
I respect the effort here, but the app is just not intuitive at all. My first entry is there, but I wouldn’t know it from my activity log. Notes get randomly saved separate from training sessions. And the Ui just messy. Needs a UX professional to clean it all up. Gonna try others.
Wanted it to be good
The app has a lot of great ideas, like the tagging and data viz. The main issue is that it simply doesn’t save some entries, some notes are unattached to training sessions, no easy way to edit and save prior sessions. It’s free and may be able to keep some basic records, but only sporadically.
Oh the bugs
It’s a fantastic app. The concept is great and can’t wait until it gets refined. It for sure works but aside from the bugs here and there this is a great log book for BJJ.
3 star reason
•Even though I will support this app throughout my BJJ life we need to address some things.
•If you want to input the school you go to, You won’t be able to as of yet.
•inputting the weight and goal details are a little bit of a pain because of the bugs but it’s still doable
*hint* start from the top text box then work your way down! don’t skip and come back to the skipped portion; everything will reset.
•entering competition stats can be a-little confusion and needs some refinement. Again, doable but it will take some time
Can’t wait to give this app a 4 star soon!
My new fave app
Amazing job
Much Needed Application For Jiu-Jitsu
Ability to track everything.
App Is Unusable
The app will not allow me past the log in screen. In signs me and and boots my right back out.
Been using the App for around 2 years off and on.
Hey guys, for anyone who wants to look at their BJJ game and how it evolves over time, this is honestly your app. It’s just a straight up good tracker of what your doing in class, how your doing it, and where you can improve (by looking at your lack of submissions, takedowns, or what your tapping most to). It takes your info and gives you a ton of graphs that you will look at more than you think. Also, it works with Apple Watch and the fitness app if that’s something that you like (which I do). I’m a three stripe blue at this point and have trained in a bunch of countries because of my job so I don’t use things like the geographical location and the gyms that I train at aren’t on it but I really don’t care. With an app like this you just need to use it for the tool that it is. I truly hope the developers keep updating and improving the app (hint, hint), but even as it is right now, I love it. Thanks guys for such a useful app. I’m giving 5 stars because it’s well thought out.
Update: the bugs that you are already working on from one of the last messages will go far to improve this already great app. The biggest problem that I’ve had is that the list app allows you to make a custom list of submission, sweeps, etc, by adding them. Would you please:
1) add sweep and other categories? Right now, users can only add submissions.
2) allow users to erase submissions or other items from lists
3) consider a pay option to support this app.
This is still the best BJJ app despite not being updated for long periods of time. The graphics, charts, and simple design is head and shoulders above all the others.
Great Concept - Inefficient Quirks
Overall, I love the concept of the app with the ability to log trainings with notes and track specific data.
Layout: Beautiful and simple.
Quirks/Bugs?:
1.When entering training stats, you have to SAVE the data before you input your notes/journal/video for that session. Let’s say you put in all your submissions, taps, rounds, round timing, etc. you then click to add notes. But once you’re done with the notes, it brings you back to the original training page, but all your data has been reset. Irritating.
2. For some reason, the data graphs are showing zero rounds rolled, despite my entry of rounds in my individual training day entries.
3. I had to sit out and roll my brain instead of my body from an injury. I still made a stat log with notes, but that day is not showing. The NOTES are showing, but not the day’s data.
Fix the bugs and I’ll definitely change the rating. Overall, okay.
