Description
Boondocking usually refers to free camping in remote areas. This app shows over 2,000 free boondocking locations (and growing), most within the US.
The boondocking locations are obtained from crowdsourcing and are therefore subjective in nature. What one person describes as beautiful another may describe as worthless. The number of locations continues to increase as more users submit boondocking locations.
- No Internet needed as the boondocking locations are contained with the app.
- Shows driving distance and time from your current location to the boondocking location.
- View multiple map types such as Open Street Map.
- Get info about each boondocking location, even when offline.
- Mark locations as Favorite locations.
- Get the local weather for the location.
- Find nearby hiking and biking locations.
- View Flickr photos for the location (when available).
- Filter the locations (water, toilets, big rig friendly, etc) so you only view the locations you what to see.
- Send location data directly to our Road Trip Planner app.
- No login or subscription necessary. Just start the app and use it!

Missing places in Washington
Doesn’t seem to have my places that I know of
Not Worth It
With Colorado being full of free boondocking literally everywhere, this app is virtually no help. There are too many awesome free apps that are right in the money and three times as many tips and locations.
Enjoying all the apps
Been out here for only a week and these apps have already been helpful. The one thing I can’t find is a good guide to public libraries, and thought that would be a nice plugin app. On the other hand, maybe public libraries, financed by locals for locals, might be off putting for increasing wifi traffic and computer usage. Just a thought/suggestion for another project.
Where are all the Boondocking locations
I’ve used this app for a few years. Everything was great. Now there’s no dispersed locations. Just Walmart and truck stops. Even the ones I pinned. I am an admin for a Boondocking group and promoted this app often. Now I have to give it a bad review. Unfortunately, I’m just going to delete it.

Why no listing for blm camping at Stewart’s point, lake mead? I had to watch a YouTube video to find this!
Interrupts me to beg for a review.
My standard policy is to award one star to any app that interrupts mine to beg for a review.
I’m not sure what is meant by “title”.
Lots of descriptions are very old and I assume obsolete. Many were last updated in 2018. I’m writing this in June 2023. Have the developers given up on this app?
Best App for Me
The Boon Docking app has worked well for me to the point where it is the only one I trust. I have used it from East coast home to Washington State both middle and northern routes. I have also used it from home to Las Vegas with camping for two weeks in New Mexico and Arizona on the way and returning via Colorado all the way to PA. I think it is easiest to use and very reliable.
