Description

Founded in 1975, Boston Review is a non-profit, reader-supported political and literary magazine—a public space for discussion of ideas and culture. We put a range of voices and views in dialogue on the web (without paywalls or commercial ads) and in print (four times a year)—covering lots of ground from politics and philosophy to poetry, fiction, book reviews, and criticism. One premise ties it all together: that a flourishing democracy depends on public discussion and the open exchange of ideas.

great content, good app but ...

the content is great and the app is good, but... 1. in article mode i selected a word and clicked “look up”, and got a list of definitions. but, afaict, there’ no way to *exit* dictionary mode and get back to reading. (i had to close the app — “flip it off” — and then reopen it.) 2. when i jump to another section (to read contributor bios, for example), there’ no back arrow to jump back to where i was reading. 3. at least a couple of times i’ve opened the app and found that it has forgotten where i was, positioning me at the beginning of an article rather then three or four pages in.

Terrible app, great content...

Who would design a e-reader where you can’t figure out how to annotate text in 30 seconds, let alone 10 minutes? Apparently you can’t annotate text. That’s telling most serious reader that you can’t really read the work, merely skim it. Why bother with a separate app that doesn’t have better performance?

Impossible to cancel.

Should just be an iPad app.

Terrible app for the iPhone!

Terrible app for the iPhone! It simply downloads a PDF of the print version of the magazine rather than providing content in a way that's user-friendly to the iPhone's native dimensions. To read articles you need to pinch and expand or double tap to enlarge, and requires that you finger-scroll all around the place to read pages, which have 3 columns of text. Absurd. The app is also really buggy and crashes all the time. I love the Boston Review, but this app is horrible. Save your money!

If you like well-reasoned arguments from different perspectives, people talking about current events like adults, and being talked to like an adult, you'll like Boston Review.

Beautiful and informative

A beautifully designed app that keeps you updated on political, cultural and literary issues - it is all right at your fingertips. Highly recommended!

Awesome!

A beautiful app, great be able to carry these issues around in my pocket. And the page-turning feature is so fun! The animation gets a little slow & lurchy, but not enough to be obnoxious. Wish I could subscribe through this!
