App forces you to register your appliance.
I was excited to try out the app, but the way it is presented I get the impression the overwhelming purpose of the app is to try and force people into registering their device.
It’s a shame because there are probably some quality recipes in it, but It feels kinda dark-pattern-y and I really wish manufacturers understood that if you’re going to make a consumer app, you should prioritize the *consumer’s* experience. This app misses the mark.
App is trash right now
This app hasn’t worked all day for me. I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled it. It’s connected to Wi-Fi and my Wi-Fi is working for every app on my phone but this one. It has just been spinning and spinning then says “Whoops, something went wrong”.
Beyond frustrating.
Latest version broke recipes
I am no longer able to open any recipe on app since updated to the latest version
Unable to use appliance without app
Can’t cook dinner for me family because app is down. Ridiculous!
Renders my Joule Obsolete
This worked great for about three months then the joule and/or this app crapped out. My joule is working, I can connect but it won’t connect when I try to preheat. It’s either piss poor software or piss poor product that breaks after three months of very light use. Stay away, don’t buy a Breville Joule.
Love the machine - App is.. lackluster
Doesn’t save favorites. And now since the update the timer no longer works.
Latest version is a mess
I’ve been using this app for a few years now, but the latest update is serious messed up. The cooking guide has a bizarre set of cooking options. For example, Filet Mignon is missing but Oxtail is now listed. Pork tenderloin is gone as well as Chicken Breast. What’s going on? Sadly you can’t use the device without the app, but if they don’t fix this thing I may have to dump it and go back to Anova.
Nice approach. Missing Integrations
The app has a lot of content and some nifty features which are useful whether or not you have a Breville product.
Great that this app uses curated content from sources like Breville’s own Test Kitchen, The New York Times, America’s Test Kitchen, Sur La Table, and others - but one glaringly lacking feature is the inability to integrate the various cooking platforms for access to saved recipes in the same way Sonos allows access to playlists or favorites stored in Apple Music, Pandora, SiriusXM and numerous other music platforms all from within the Sonos app.
My biggest wishes are support for Apple’s HomeKit, Siri, and an iPad version of the app.
Favorites and history not saved
I have used the app with the same login across mobile devices. However, none of my favorite recipes is saved and meal that I cooked didn’t get saved in history section either. What’s up with the app? These are standard tasks and we can’t even do so with this app?? Confused at tech debt/ features priorities of your development team here. What a shame…
Support inaccessible and can’t have >2 favorites
So, I got a Joule Turbo for my birthday (as the house cook), and promptly QR downloaded the app. I was pretty excited to explore the possibilities, browsing the recipes in the app, seeing seven I was particularly interested in trying soon, including two which solved major problems I had. As one does, I marked those seven as Favorites so I could easily find them when I was ready to cook them. Well, it turns out that the app will only remember TWO favorites, no more. Any more just vanish into the netherworld. (Or maybe show up briefly, until you breathe on it.)
So, also as one ought to do, I try to enter a support case before writing a review. Turns out that I *can’t do that* without a Batch Code - which my brand-new Joule Turbo DOES NOT HAVE - and a model number BSV600 that does not appear in the support case listing of options. Hence I can’t even ask for help. I was initially inclined to assume that this was some fixable glitch, but deliberately (or at best, grossly negligently) preventing any access to support rather calls that into question.
If one fundamental feature of the app is so completely broken and completely cut off from support, can I really trust the device to cook food properly controlled by the app alone? That I can’t even ask the manufacturer that question means I have to answer “no”.
As a side note, I can pretty readily tell that said support form is on top of SN. Which I know enough about to recognize that permitting an “unknown/other” choice with a suitable business rule would’ve been a triviality. And denying it was a deliberate choice.
