Somehow. In Butterflies app over the main list button is the view in months app button which is normally only present in hen two moth apps? Help? Cheers Ian.

Missing important details

TennisWatcher on

United Kingdom

Sadly, it is missing size/wingspan which, at times, would greatly help identification. The pictures give no indication of (comparative) size, with each picture being the same size. Identifying similar looking species is actually quite difficult, with the organisation of this guide. As others have remarked, this is essentially a paper book. The compare feature is useful, but limited. As others have suggested, the option of being able to filter by current location would be very useful. As would being able to filter/rank possibilities by time of year. It is a bit frustrating having scroll through all the pictures to be able to access the distribution info, lifecycle/year info and the description text. The description text is generally very informative, but, as previously mentioned, missing vital details such as size. It would be better if this could be accessed directly at any time by use of a button. On an iPad, at least, there is a large amount of empty space which could be used to show the distribution and lifecycle details. Also, most features appear to be given over to over-plugging of the corresponding Moths app, especially the 'view this species in the Moths app'; which is particularly annoying since it doesn't appear that any butterflies are in the Moths app!

If it ain't broke why fix it??

Disappointed with this update - a-z doesn't work well anymore and detailed flight time graphs aren't there as far as I can see. Also screen obviously not catering for older iPhones. Can we have the old version back please ???

Disappointing

Used to like the older version. I find this version annoying. The pictures are so small, identifying an unknown butterfly nigh on impossible. Thus and the price has put me off from buying the Moth guide.

Appalling navigation

NI Niki on

United Kingdom

Navigation is a list of butterflies by name with a tiny image (1cm x 1cm max). Also, no search facility other than typing in name. Worth a couple of quid in its current form.

Problems with version 2.0

SRYorks on

United Kingdom

The content of this app is very good and I have been happily using version 1 for a good while. The upgrade to 2.0 brings some useful features (e.g. a comparison facility) but also introduces a major problem. While the photos on this version will still resize to fill available screen space (if you minimise the text or change to landscape orientation) the other illustrations don't - they just show at the same small size surrounded by loads of wasted white space. The accompanying i.d. tips text now verges on too small to read on a full-size iPad. In version 1 the illustrations resized properly to use available screen space. This is a backward step for version 2.0 and, given that the illustrations are such a key component of the guide, it really needs fixing to restore the usability of the excellent underpinning content.

Worth the money !!!!!!

I think this is a great app to have and I think it's worth the price because all the information I need is in one place rather than looking through all my identification books :)

Could be better

alang049 on

You really need to know your butterflies before using this! Search would help. Identification guide might make it worth £9.99. Nice photos.

Not worth £9.99

For this price I would expect much higher quality images, many more hd photos, even videos, links to on-line information, etc

Good but....

....really, really needs a search function.
