Not bad for a ftp game. I got a few hours of enjoyment out of it before I ran into impossible difficulty (at only lvl 3). At least watching all of the ads actually benefits the player by granting extra items and abilities, but after a while you'll be watching 5-10 ads between each level just to barely survive. It quickly becomes impossible for most players who will likely move on to other games.

Good game but buggy

I first played Brotato on Xbox. So naturally when I saw it was free on mobile I downloaded it so I could play it on the go. There are some notable differences between mobile and other versions. Primarily the way in which characters are unlocked, a mode exclusive to mobile, and totems and talent cards. The mobile exclusive mode, however, just seems like a watered down version of classic mode, with every single shop visit/refresh offering the same few items with no real variety. Variety and being able to try different builds with different synergies is the cornerstone of roguelite games. Being able to so consistently pad my stats with the same items ad infinitum made it so simple it was boring, so ultimately I’m not a fan of the so called survival mode. The classic mode is still the same Brotato I love, however there is one very irritating bug in both modes and it makes things difficult at times. Upon leveling up during a run and choosing a stat boost, every boost that says “attack speed” boosts movement speed instead. The scaling of it is also much higher than on other platforms, which could be intentional for movement speed on mobile since touch and drag can be a bit trickier than using a joystick or keyboard, especially on smaller mobile devices. But the fact that when you’re expecting one stat but you get another significantly hurts runs and impedes strategy. I need higher attack speed early game for most characters, but the only way to consistently upgrade that stat doesn’t work because of a bug. Whether 3% or 40%, the alleged attack speed and movement speed upgrades both only upgrade movement speed (Offhand I think the game calls the level up stat upgrade for attack speed “reflexes” and the one for movement speed “legs” but they both boost the same stat). There’s not even a spot in game to report a bug so this review is all I can really do to report it, and hopefully the dev sees it. Adding a clear space in game for bug reports, fixing this bug in particular, and adding more shop variety to the survival mode would make this a perfect game imho.

There’s a bug
