Buff Flash Control Reviews

Still not up to the task

Slow and unreliable to find connected flash units. User interface is not friendly. Changing the power settings by hitting +/- on the power control?! Seriously?! Have devs heard of direct entry field or at least scroll control?

Flaky

I set this up with a Buff Hub and 1 einstein strobe with no problem. Shot it a few times with that setupand it worked fine, the hub and strobe came up quickly and smoothly. Then i tried to connect the second strobe and everything stopped working, even after rebooting everything all i got was spinny wheel in the app and couldn’t trigger either strobe any more. That’s when i uninstalled this app and the $200 buff hub went back for a refund. The quest for semi-reliable wireless flash trigger continues

Great when it works!

As others have said, great concept. Unfortunately, I have this running on my iPad Pro at my fixed tethering station. I usually power on one light at a time and every time I power an additional light, I have to quit this app and relaunch it for it to find the new added light (s). Works about half the time. I work tethered in an indoor 15’x15’ space. I spend more time restarting this app and reconnecting to Capture One than I do taking photos! There is a button to discover additional Hubs, but not additional lights?

Zero stars if possible.

Every time Paul Buff updates the app, it’s nothing but firmware errors when trying to update your Hub and your Link. Every. Singe. Time. Unacceptable.

Absolutely Awful

This app is totally worthless, it doesn’t detect all of he strobes and loses connection with the strobes. And you have to re-detect the strobes when the phone comes out of Lock Screen. And the Hub trigger is equally useless, it misfires and battery life is terrible. I purchased a Raven TLC trigger which works beautifully. Come on Paul Buff you owe it to your customers to fix this disaster.

Unusable

App is practically useless. Communication drops far too often to reliably utilize the hub system. Fantastic concept, but dreadful execution so far. If this cannot be corrected then I will move on to a different lighting system. Very disappointed.

Awful

I love the concept but this app and/or the HUB often disconnect from a light or two…or more…without alerting you. On the app, the light still appears to be connected so you’ll adjust your light output a tiny bit, take a shot, no change. Adjust it a little more, take a shot, no change. Then the frustrating realization that the changes indicated in the app didn’t effect light output at all. And don’t even think about using your phone for Bluetooth ANYTHING and expect it to stay connected to the HUB. I’ve spent far too much time eliminating interference and trouble shooting. I’m done with Buff Inc. This flaky system ( the app and the fairly expensive HUB unit that is useless without the app ) destroys the flow of a shoot.

Not ready for consumer use

At best 5 minutes before it stops communicating with lights. Pretty useless system at the moment
