I just received my bytetags for my cats and the setup was so simple and easy! You just scan the tag and add the info of your pet! Creating the account and adding our second pet to the account was simple. I added our second cat by typing in the tags code instead of scanning, which was just as easy. I know with our old tags, we couldn’t even fit our whole address on them so we had to shorten it. Now, with the app, we can: list our cats vet info, our address, both mine and my fiancé’s contact information, and any medication they are on. I did see some reviews regarding the security and allowing others to edit the pet info. To test, I tried scanning the tag with my phone that had the account logged in to and yes, my account popped up and allowed me to edit the info. However, since I was already logged in on my web browser, it automatically had me logged in when I scanned. BUT when I scanned it with my fiancé’s phone (he did NOT log into the account via the browser yet) it did NOT have the option to edit the account. It popped up that this pet may be lost and to a share your location with the owner. It showed just my cats info without the option to edit. It also did not display any of our phone numbers/addresses since we did not mark her as lost. He also did not have to download the app to view this information. It came up via web browser. So far I love these tags! The quality of them is mehh but the app works great!
Lame app
You can’t use your camera to scan a tag when you’re adding a new bike tag to an existing pet. You have to either delete the pets entirely and start over, or enter it in by hand.
That’s very lame.
Don’t buy it
I keep getting “looking for device/phone” alerts from byte tag trying to find my phone. I no longer have an account from them because I was sick of them trying to locate my phone all the freaking time! Apparently closing an account doesn’t stop them from trying to locate my phone. The microchip is more effective than their tag!
ByteTag App
The app keeps logging me out every so often. Please fix this bug so I don’t miss any important alerts about my dog!
Works as intended and Cute!
After looking through some of the other reviews want to clarify some of the concerns other had! Only if you’re signed into your account already will the scanning of the tag allow edits to the pets info. The scanning feature in the app work immediately and was hassle free! The tags came with attaching metal loops and look great! The only issue on my end was when I test scanned my dogs tag and wanted to ‘notify the owner of your location’ my browser blocked the sending coordinates part. I’m sure this isn’t the case for everyone and I could probably change my settings to fix this. If someone is going to steal your dog no amount of info on their collar that will stop them, that’s just the risk. I am just happy to have an easy to use tag for my dog that I can easily update if necessary with multiple numbers and our home location!
Scam
The tag only works with the app. If someone finds your dog, they would have to download the app to use the scanner in the app. Your phone camera does not work. The description is misleading about the GPS also. There is not a tracking device in the tag, if your dog is found and they download the app and find your number. They would then call you and tell you where they are. A regular dog tag is better. This is a rip off, a good idea they never finished.
The other five star reviews are frauds. This product t should be taken down, how do companies like this exist?
Major Security Flaw
Your app can not scan the byte tag - it scans perfectly if I use my camera to scan and connect to the website, but the scanner in your app cannot get a clean focus on the tag.
Of greater concern is that anyone who scans the tag with their phone and uses the link to go to the dog’s profile can edit the owner information - making it very easy for someone to steal your dog and then register it as their own on your site and use the microchip and license number to change owner addresses on those records as well. Editing information should be password protected - and it isn’t!
Not impressed
Update to my original review…the second tag is now unusable. My puppy chewed right through it while it was still attached to his collar and swallowed half of it. Just all around disappointing.
——————————————————
First off, they didn’t include the rings to attach the tag to the collar. Was it really that hard to include for what these cost? I bought two, one for each dog. The tags are silicone and one ripped after only a week, so it’s completely useless. The reason I bought these is one of my dogs is not a candidate for microchipping. This app claims to disclose the location of whomever scanned the code if your dog is lost. Turns out, this is only the case if that person agrees to share their location. If someone intends to not return your dog, you’ll never find out where the scan came from. I’m really dissatisfied due to shoddy product quality, incomplete components straight out of the packaging, and misleading advertising about what the app can accomplish. This was an absolute waste of money. I highly recommend shopping around for better options, which there are plenty.
LIFE SAVER FOR PETS
I just want to first off by saying thank you for this amazing product, I looked at the right time on Facebook and seen this and I’m going to be honest, I have never heard of this before until I was scrolling on Facebook and the add popped up and I couldn’t believe what I was reading. This dog/cat tag is highly advanced and it doesn’t make you spend more money than you have too. Those custom dog/cat tags from petco are cool but let’s just say you gotta change your phone number, u gotta spend more money on a tag that you don’t have in your bank account… no screw that, go with BYTETAG and you can change anything you want on your animals tag, it’s amazing and easy! Buy it now while it’s on sale!
Saved my dog
Our dog is a runner. He's fixed, chipped, and has a tag on his collar with our phone numbers. A few months ago I saw the byte tag ad and thought I'd give it a try.
Yesterday our dog bolted through the front door as I unloaded some groceries. I think the rug or something prevented it from closing all the way. The little guy was in the wind. We followed for an hour before losing sight of him and looked for another hour. Finally I got an alert, someone scanned his byte tag, sent me their coordinates, and called me! Perfect! I went and picked him up, it was such a great re-union.
The tag on his collar w/ our number wasn't used and idky, no scan was necessary, but they used byte tag and we are so happy. Would highly recommend.
