Description

"Cal Countdown" is a free, simple iOS & Apple Watch app that automatically creates a color-coded countdown to the next event on your calendar and displays it on your Apple Watch face and/or your "Today" screen. The app is primarily intended to be used as a complication on your Apple Watch or as a widget.
If your days are anything like ours, packed with various meetings scattered throughout the day, every time you check your calendar, you're trying to figure out one thing: How much time do I have until my next appointment?
So, you glance at your watch, note the start time of your next appointment, and calculate the difference between the current time and your next event. We got tired of doing this mental calculation many times a day, but much to our surprise, we could not find an existing iOS application that would do this chore for us. So we decided to build it ourselves.
Now, every time we glance at our watch, it immediately tells us what we want to know: How much time do I have until my next appointment? The app's color changes from blue to green to yellow to orange to red as you approach the start of your next event. (6+ hours = Blue, 2-6 hours = Green, 1-2 = Yellow, 30-60 mins = Orange, 0-30 mins = Red)
Cal Countdown supports all the different Apple Watch complications. All Apple Watch complications that support multi-color will be color-coded (but not all watch complications support multiple colors.)
Using "Cal Countdown" is as easy as it gets. It uses the calendar data already on your phone; no signing in; no entering any usernames or passwords. The app lets you select the calendars you want to include or not in your calendar countdowns.
Don't have an Apple Watch? You can still use Cal Countdown on your phone as an iPhone/iPad app with a "Today" widget.
Cal Countdown does not require an account. It does not even require an internet connection. The app uses the calendar data already on your iPhone. It's completely secure. Your calendar data remains completely private, and never leaves your phone.
Cal Countdown also has the ability to ignore or skip certain events on your calendar. This feature is especially useful if you have shared calendars with your family, friends, or colleagues. We often have events on our calendars that we need to know about, but may not be attending ourselves. If you want Cal Countdown to ignore or skip these events and start counting down to the following event on your calendar, just tap the "Ignore" button, and Cal Countdown will immediately start a countdown to the following event.

Cal Countdown Reviews

Great and simple. Want more!

Perfect for my needs. Took forever to find it since all other countdown apps seem to not sync w calendar or have the simple widget. Love to use it on my Apple Watch to show time remaining until my next meeting. The iPhone widget is useful but ugly so I hid it in a Smart Stack. Appreciate the app. Would pay for a pro version for more customizability.

Update: NOT Broken on watchOS 10!

Below is what I originally wrote, which turned out to be due to an issue with my watch staying connected to my iPhone after updating to watchOS 10 and/or updating my phone to iOS 17. I had to unpair my watch but now everything works again. Cal Countdown is an amazing, can’t-do-without app!! So glad my issue was resolved. This app used to provide an excellent, extremely useful watch complication, but it has suddenly stopped working on the latest watchOS. Perhaps something to do with changes Apple made to granting calendar permissions? I recall seeing other apps having to ask for calendar permissions in a very new way, granular after the update to wacthOS 10 and iOS 17.

Good Concept, Fatal Flaw

The widget doesn’t work, it only shows what time it was when you last used the app it doesn’t update. If you had three hours until the event when you last opened the app, it will continue to display three hours no matter how much times passes. I hope the developer fixes this, because I love the feature and it is very helpful to me in time management so it is unfortunate that it doesn’t work.

Simple and Works

Does what it says it does. Unfortunately doesn’t work for me. I do Time blocking and want to see the current event so I can stay on task. Wish there was a toggle to show the current event instead of the next event.

So helpful!

This app is awesome. I have ADHD and struggle with time blindness. Having a reminder right on my wrist to tell me how much time I have until the next event is so so helpful. It’s so easy to use, I just keep my calendar updated and ready to go. My only suggestion would be a way to change the phone widget, I’d love if had a dark mode or a way to change the size of the font. Overall it’s awesome! Thanks so much!

Love this app

Wow!!! This makes my Apple Watch so much more useful! I can now better comprehend my time management at a glance and on a variety of watch faces. Really so cool and thank you for making such a great app! Great interface when you tap the complication it takes you to a detailed yet simple screen and gives you the option to ignore the event directly. Great to have an iPhone widget version on iOS 14 to pair. Only option I can think to integrate would be allowing a selection on whether the countdown includes or excludes seconds.

Love this but needs color coding

Love this app but would love to see icon color coding based on time until... for example: blue = nothing in 24 hrs, green = nothing in next 10 hrs, yellow = 3 hrs, orange = 1 hr, red = 15 min or less. Icon should also be smaller leaving room for larger font. Thanks for the app!

Great App!
