CamerAlert

Published by: PocketGPSWorld.com

Description

CamerAlert is a self-contained Speed and Red Light Camera warning system using data from the renowned PocketGPSWorld.com Speed Camera Database. Whilst you drive, it provides audible and visual warnings as you approach speed camera locations as well as giving your average speed during SPECs cameras. CamerAlert uses directional information to reduce false alerts, you are only warned of cameras that are relevant to your direction of travel.

SUPPORT: We ALWAYS reply to support requests. If you've logged a support ticket and you have not received a reply within 24hrs MAX then please check your junkmail or spam filters.
TIP FOR BETTER NOTIFICATIONS: In the main iPhone settings go to Notifications. From the list select CamerAlert & then choose the 'Alert' notification type. This will keep a blue pop up on screen until you have passed the camera. The default is the 'Banner' type which vanishes after 2 seconds.
MIRRORED DISPLAY: If your display is mirrored, then you have the "Mirror Display" option enabled in settings. This is explained in the user-guide - please take a moment to read it before posting a negative review
CamerAlert has two distinct modes: Map and List. In Map mode you are shown a map with the cameras located on it. In List mode you are shown a list of all the cameras in your vicinity. You can see the camera type, distance & direction. CamerAlert supports multitasking so you can run it in combination with your preference of Navigation App.
COMPATIBILITY: CamerAlert requires iOS 9.0 minimum and supports iPhone 3G, 4 & 4S and all iPad 3G models. It will not function on non-3G iPad or iPod Touch unless you use an Apple approved GPS receiver accessory. Map mode requires a data connection. iPod Touch users or those wishing to avoid mobile internet use (or whilst roaming) can run the app in list mode which uses no data.
IMPORTANT: CamerAlert, when first installed, has a demo Speed Camera Database. To ensure you have the latest camera data we include a free trial subscription, after which you will need to subscribe for updates. You do not need to register for the free trial.
In-App subscriptions will be charged to your iTunes account after you confirm the purchase, they do not auto-renew at the end of the purchased period. In-App subscriptions require registration to allow you to restore and use your subscription on all of your devices.
In-App subscriptions are £3.99 for one month, £8.99 for 3 months or £19.99 for 12 months. The database is updated on a weekly basis.
If you are not an existing subscriber you can subscribe via Apple's In-App Purchase service to ensure continued access to updates. In-App subscriptions can be only be used on iOS devices linked to the Apple ID used to make the original In-App purchase.
PocketGPSWorld.com Ltd subscribers can use their annual membership for camera updates by linking within the app.
Another feature, unique to this app, is that the latest data can be downloaded over the air at any time (mobile internet or WiFi required) to ensure you have the most up-to-date speed camera information available at all times.
If you see a camera that is not in the database then you can report it using CamerAlert. This feature can also be used to change information about a camera already in the database i.e. changing speed or direction information.
Disclaimer: The use of a speed camera warning device may not be legal in all countries and territories. Continued use of GPS can dramatically decrease battery life. External power is advised.

CamerAlert Reviews

Top notch app

I have an inbuilt sat nav in my VW Golf, which unfortunately won't let me use Pocketgpsworld's database, so I have this running on my iPhone in the background, and it hasn't missed a camera yet! 👍👍👍👍👍👍 My iPhone is now telling me that this app will NOT work with the next iOS update as it's a 32 bit app, and only 64 bit apps will be supported. Pleeeeeeese! update this app, I really couldn't be without it. UPDATE: 01.06.24. It’s a long time since my original review, and I just had to update it as I’m now using it with a new iPhone 15 Pro on the latest Beta iOS 17 version. The app continues to work admirably even though it’s been left on the shelf for so long. I’ve not encountered any problems at all, and I have it running in the background whilst using Google or Apple Maps on Carplay. The database is updated on a regular basis, at least once to twice a week, so there must still be a lot of individuals reporting cameras. I’ve subscribed to several other ‘so called’ camera detectors, and NONE are a patch on this one. I can honestly say I’ve not passed a camera position, be it fixed or mobile that CamerAlert has not warned me of. It will be a sad day if/when this app does stop working, but I just hope that time is a long way off yet! Long Live CamerAlert!

Problems with display

Just moved to iPhone 15 and the average speed box when travelling through average speed camera zones is behind the “floating island” so you can’t see it

Still works as described.

I’ve seen a few comments saying this app doesn’t work. They’re wrong. I use it almost every day, I still get alerts sent by Bluetooth to my car. The database is still updated weekly. It may not be quite as up to date as it used to be due to the reduced user base but it’s still very good. The app may be five years old but it works and it works well. I’m not saying it couldn’t do with an update as there are still a few bugs, such as it going to sleep if you’re stationary for a while but it DOES work satisfactorily.

Drive for life on

I have been using this for many years on a navman before this app. This is the best licence protector I have seen as the inforcement people are very sneaky where they park or operate. Keep up the good work. I am currently using on iPhone 8 large and although I get the odd app crash I have no other issues with audio output even when the phone is BT to the car the speaker output from phone is still active. Sham there is no update to the app.

Don’t drive without it!

A licence-saver. Dropped one star owing to alert fonts that are too small to read while driving.

This app hasn’t been updated in 5 years & should be removed from the App Store.

Save your money, do not subscribe to get the latest camera database (btw the new camera locations are notified by the users not the developers), as you won’t get any audio notifications as the Bluetooth audio routing to your car stereo or even through your phones speakers does not work after the latest couple of iOS updates. Have used this app & the previous iterations for many years, so I am used to having to spend time fiddling with the outdated interface to get it to work; but now it won’t work at all, tested on 2 different iPhones in 2 different cars with no luck. The developers seemingly have no intention of updating this app and are just content to get the money from people subscribing to get an up to date camera database to replace the very out of date one the free app comes with. Apple should remove this app as it is not fit for purpose any more.

WON’T OPEN

Have used the app for many years but today it just won’t open. Have tried deleting and reloading to no avail. I wonder if there has been an update or is one forthcoming?

Abandoned app but still gets camera updates

Hairless Jim on

The app is now 4 years old without an update. It works but the GUI is no longer safe to use to report new cameras. All the ‘buttons’ are far too small on the new high res screens and there is no voice compatibility to control it hands-free. The camera data is still the best out there, with weekly full database updates and smaller updates in between. Shame that the same care is not given to the app.

Brilliant

I’ve had this app for years and would strongly recommend it. Regular updated and reliable.

Very good BUT

I have found this app extremely useful, the one annoying thing is that it tells you the road speed BUT whispers it so I have to keep the Tom Tom on to visually check.
