Canvas Teacher FAQ
Is Canvas Teacher free?
Yes, Canvas Teacher is completely free and it doesn't have any in-app purchases or subscriptions.
Is Canvas Teacher legit?
⚠️ The Canvas Teacher app has poor ratings and negative feedback. Users seem unsatisfied with its performance or features.
I tried marking with Canvas teacher app.
The control is very glitchy.
If you didn’t carefully drag to select, the app would accidentally bring you back to the to-do list page, sometimes resetting your comments.
When accidentally move the iPad, you can reset the marking too.
The highlight button stays down every time you try to scroll down. Why don’t we have the ability to make it stay down if we want. The default option should let this button reset every time we finish highlighting.
Update: new bug. Now the app does not update my markings. Unbelievable lack of support even though it was used everywhere I teach. Degrade it from 3 star to one. I hope some new startup can replace this old and buggy system. Still wonder why we have to used such a terrible system like this for education??
The app crashes while marking too often
The app will crash randomly, at approximately 10% chance. There are no other apps running, device (iPad) has sufficient space. Please please fix it because every time it crashes, have to wait till the whole stack is loaded again.
Simple features now broken
I used to use the app to rapidly respond to student posts. Now, pressing ‘Reply’ brings up a buggy text box while the rest of the app content disappears. It takes some combination of random taps to get to a usable response field and it is even harder to use standard text features like copy and paste. Please go back a few versions to figure out where this went wrong.
Why wouldn’t you include a gradebook?
Did anyone think about functionality and user experience when creating this app, or is it just supposed to be a selling point for when you’re trying to win over new customers?
Slow lately…
Is it just me, or is speedgrader running slowly lately?
Please fix dark mode ui
When using dark theme, the status bar remains light theme, this makes it invisible against the banner of the institution. If this can be controlled independent of the client configuration, that would be great.
Please allow the user to highlight text for copy/paste and assign peer reviews.
The interface in this app lacks functionality that the desktop web interface allows. Please allow highlighting and copy/paste for the text. Please allow the user to assign peer reviews from the app.
And while you are at it, the resolution of the handwritten feedback needs to be improved, or at least adjustable. My students frequently can’t read how the app scrambles my handwriting.
Grader doesn’t work recently
The grader has gotten progressively worse in the past few months. Currently it doesn’t properly scroll and the loading times have increased as well.
Won’t open students’ assignments
Suddenly the iPad version will not open the students’ assignments. Their work is uploaded as plain text files. The app says the file is not a pdf. Worked great with text files until about a week ago. Now nothing
HIDE COMMENTS IN GRADING VIEW
The fact this isn’t a feature after multiple infrastructure posts going back to 2018 means the developers really don’t care about users or their code is so bad they can’t figure out how to implement this fix without bricking their kludge of a repository.
