Don't get me wrong: the mag is still brilliant. The new app, though, is not. Very slow to download new issues, and the only subscription app I have that won't auto-download in the background. Worst of all, it has to reload the app and “dynamic resources” every time you come back to the app. If you leave for two minutes or check another app, CAR makes you start over.
UPDATE Frequently the app decides the newest issue is from 2022, even though I was reading Feb 2024 last night and it was already downloaded. Truly dreadful app.
version 9 just froze my iPad pro
couldn’t be restarted until i downloaded ios 13.4 which forced a restoration
App is crap.
Best content on earth, but the new update is crap. Lots of problems, can't seem to download properly. Won't restore old issues. How do I cancel my overpriced subscription?
Car mag app is worth it
Like the car mag app. All the beauty of the print without having a stack of previous issues lying about the room.
It's missing two BIG features: way more video content and a way to increase font size and tap to zoom on photos. Fonts are too small.
Access
You can look at the one paragraph car reviews or some blogger test destroying God knows what but....
If you are interested in the astonishing breadth of the auto industry from a slightly biased Brit view this mag delivers. Year after year of actual info,opinions that matter and car madness.
Lost the plot
App has NO settings. Not expandable. Print microscopic on iPad Mini, need a magnifying glass for full iPad. Fantastic magazine; but dreadful app.
Needs work
The magazine is as good as always but the app is problematic. Each month it fails to recognize my subscription and wants me to pay for the mag. It often takes many days, reboots, uninstalls/reinstalls to sort this - very annoying.
In addition it is poor that pages cannot be scaled within the app - all my other magazines allow this.
Can't use on planes:(
I'm happy you have finally created an iPad version of our magazine, but it has a fatal flaw:
It craps out if you try to read it without wifi (3G). This means I can't read my magazines on the subway, on a train or on a long car trip. This for me is a deal breaker. It is exactly the opposite of what a publication s meant to be.
Unfortunately I have just subscribed for another year. Honestly, if this not corrected I will be forced to cancel.

A Pass
Someone was locked in a padded cell for ten years to think up how to move a great magazine into an exciting interactive online experience. Top marks for realizing this and packing ten years' ideas into this app.
Bottom marks however for three critical issues. (1) making the interface horribly confusing. You never know here you are, where you're going, what you might have missed and especially for ignoring all standard practices in computer application navigation; (2) fuzzy text on some items, inability to rotate the "magazine" into portrait and inability to scale or adjust, reverse forward and otherwise normally navigate some pictures and articles; (3) last, most importantly and worst of all, marketing's failure to realize that a great magazine has many aspects that render it of UK-specific relevance, and thus reduced utility and lesser interest outside the UK, but nevertheless trying to charge nearly three times equivalent magazine prices in North America. Earth to marketing: pack your bags, the shuttle to Pluto is leaving.
So a great magazine, a great attempt, but a definite "PASS" as in "give it a pass, move on by". Shame.
Bottom marks for Apple also, for claiming this app is "free" - pse advise who your accountants are, what four function calculator they use, and how long it takes them to draft the shareholders reports. Free? Not. Not remotely close.
