Card Thief

This game is challenging and entertaining of course. I recommend for those who loves to play card games and for those who are mind-calculative. This also may be beating your friend’s score as you may beat that person’s mind through your own luck and your own calculations. Lastly, not only for the gameplay, but the art of this game is very appealing it is to me. Overall, Exquisite Game.

* PROS: (1) Completely unique gameplay style. (2) Excellent art, sounds, and animation. (3) Increasing chest rewards encourage taking harder risks. (4) Equipment upgrades are excellent incentives to undertake challenges (better than in Card Crawl, IMHO) // * CONS: (1) You can’t really plan out an approach in advance; you just react to the numbers on the board. Decisions mostly comprise of “spend more stealth points or not?” and “put out that light or not?” and you can’t foresee if it will really pay off. For comparison, Card Crawl’s abilities had huge combo possibilities you could direct your decisions toward. (2) Equipment are only beneficial in very specific situations, and not by much. (3) Unclear interactions of mechanics make it feel a bit luck-based; like “I’m not sure what I’m doing, but my stealth doesn’t run out, so I guess this is an ok move”. // * OVERALL: Excellent quality and a unique new experience for a reasonable price, while clever mechanics encourage taking risks. But the reactive gameplay and some unclear mechanics reduce long-term replay value for me. Despite this, I still think the devs did a high-quality job for an innovative game, and I am happy to have paid for it.

Strategy lovers out there, get ready for a brain exercise.

I can no longer select a path in the game. This makes the game completely unplayed as I cannot move the thief around the board.

The gaming of the chests is tedious but the game itself is quite good.

I’m enjoying this game so much, but I think this game studio need better advertising. Every game you got so far is fantastic. There are a lot people who would appreciate games like that, but they don’t even know that something like that exist.

You can play this game and never have to watch any ads, which I appreciate immensely. The ads are optional. Watching them allows you to instantly open the chests you steal instead of waiting. I would not mind watching ads to open them, however, I have been consistently experiencing a bug where every time I try to watch an ad, I am met with “video ad error.” Other than that… great game! I might even just buy it (it’s only $2).

Game has lots of potential, but doesn’t offer much motivation to persevere. Either advance along the map, number the “levels”, add new cards, increase stealth/challenge, or offer different layouts (4x4, 2x2, or 3x4) to reward player for playing same game over and over. They are onto something really good, just needs a little more oomph than collecting chests.
