Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead

Published by: Dancing Bottle

Description

Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead is a post-apocalyptic zombie survival roguelike game with procedural world generation. It is heavily focused on crafting and exploration.
The game is set in near-future New England after a catastrophic event killed most of the human population and spawned various monsters and hazards.
Surviving is difficult: you have been thrown, ill-equipped, into a landscape now riddled with monstrosities of which flesh eating zombies are neither the strangest nor the deadliest.
Unlike most roguelikes, it has no goal: the player is free to explore the procedurally generated map, clear areas of monsters, work with NPCs, and build shelters and vehicles.
The gameplay is mainly based on day-to-day survival, and the game tracks parameters like hunger, thirst, morale, illness and temperature which the player must manage to stay alive.
There are several other things in the game such as NPC Quests and Secret Structures.
Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead is heavily focused on crafting with many basic necessities such as clothing and food being craftable from raw items that are found lying around.
There are several professions and scenarios to choose from during character creation, as well as a variety of positive and negative traits.
The game also provides the player with a robust platform to construct structures and build/modify vehicles.
The game includes vehicles, bionics, mutations, realistic fire and smoke effects, real-life seasons and a wide array of combat and crafting skills.

Love this game, and was very excited to see it had an update, only to learn it was just apple updating certificates. Still, an incredible game despite the lack of updates! Works a LOT better if you have a keyboard, though. Minus one star for the purchased content not working.

Needs an update

Great game, but it’s been 4 years since this version has received an update.

I’ve played this game before on my computer and loved it, and then this week I thought hey I wonder if it works for IOS, and yes the app exists, however when you start the game up you can only see the tutorial menu and when I try to select “play” I get sent to a screen that says my terminal is too tiny and to change the font to make up for it, however despite the controls lighting up when I press them, the controls menu shows up when I swipe and so does the keyboard, but sadly the game gives me no way of getting to the title screen where I’ve heard you can change said font, but for the time being, the game DOESN’T work and this saddens me as I’ve played it before on my computer and loved to play it on the bus but sadly a bug prevents me from even starting the game 😢

It says the screen is too small and it says that I need to change the font size but that isn’t an option on mobile

Harsh learning curve

Takes awhile to learn but once you get to that point the game is fantastic

This game is great for someone that loves complexity and realism but it's definitely not for everyone. This game is fantastic for a small amount of people.

Very good survival game

This game's great but brutal. Very hard learning curve but it's very rewarding once you learn how to play. Expect to die many times before serving a day. Hours of gameplay, it's like fallout for iOS if fallout was 2D. Sound pack is sorta worth it, has over a 100 different sounds for footsteps, window breaking, door opening and basically everything else. For me it was worth supporting the dev and also giving a bit more feel to the game. Overall an amazing game, try it out, it's free. :D
