ChargeLab

Reliable app for using both public and private chargers in my city. With the ChargeLab app, you pay for each charging sessions as you go. Other apps require you to deposit $10-$20 before charging. ChargeLab does not require this, which is one of the reasons I prefer using ChargeLab stations.

I’ve used ChargeLab both in my condo building and at various public chargers throughout Ontario. The app works well for chargers in my condo building. Cell phone reception is not great, so I ordered an RFID card to activate the underground chargers. The same app can be used at various public chargers, including the Ivy Charging Network. If you have an account with ChargeLab you don’t need to create a new account with Ivy and vice versa. This is very convenient.

I'm not sure if CL has completely migrated to the Ivy app but up until yesterday this was able to tell me if my home evse was charging or not. Now it keeps saying "scheduled" while the Ivy app is showing my actual evse status. Is this app redundant now?

When they work they are great. But majority of the time you pull up to an open charger, plug in, can’t get cell reception in an underground lot, so you go upstairs and find out the charger is offline due to connection issue. It’s infuriating. Defeats the whole purpose. ChargeLab needs to figure it out.

ChargeLab gives no indication if charge points are public or accessible or even functional. It does not give accurate directions to charge points and is sometimes just entirely wrong about whether there are even chargers in the specified location. No thank you.

Insanely when used with your own level 2 home charger (like the grizzl-e smart charger) only one person (single iphone) can actually connect to the charger as they base the account on either a single e-mail or a single iphone number instead of linking multiple e-mails or iphone numbers to a single account. And to make matters worse, all it shows is the power used charging and not the car's percent charged. If I had to do it over I would buy a dumb charger and schedule charging using the car's internal system as the charger's smart wifi based design is worthless, hard to reset (must power down and physically remove cover to trip tiny dip switches at least twice), uses the much older 2.4 gig wifi. Resetting wifi should be built right into the charging software. Overall very disappointing.

The map use incomplete charger locations. I wanted to use this app to monitor my charging cost at home but this function is not available. It only show the kw charged which my car already has this information. Not useful at all

The app works quite well with the Grizzly e Smart charger. The only changes I would love to have added is the ability to enter my electricity rates for time if use for the app to calculate my charging costs at home. The other thing is that the app shows charging history with respect to the connection time not the actual charging time when you have a schedule set. This would have to be changed even if the app would allow you to enter charging rates for time of use.

Surprised that the history doesnt store more Then a few month. My car is used for work and i have a hrizzle smart charger. I can use electricty used as tax write off. But this stupid app doesnt keep 12-13 month history. PLEASE FIX

I haven’t had any issues with the app and I’m happy to see that the developers are open to suggestions. One thing that would help me out a great deal would be the ability to input my electricity time of use costs so that I can track exactly how much my charging is costing me. In my case I have a business and being able to track my charging accurately would allow me to claim the electricity the same way I can deduct fuel. There’s a section for payments and payment methods but nothing beyond that. Right now the only way I could do this accurately would be to limit my charging to a certain time of day which isn’t always convenient because I live in a place where there are three pricing tiers depending on time of use Please consider doing this.
