I like to play the Reti Opening…but this app doesn’t even have that as an option to learn- yet it has obscure openings like the Grob or the Bird. I also can’t find the London System…which really is essential to most newer chess players. I don’t know when the last time this app was updated…but it needs one.
I paid for it because I’d like to see it improved further. The thing I don’t like is some lines are outdated. I’d understand if they were gambit lines or something but there are positions where the only move allowable is an outright mistake and if you check it against databases they aren’t even the most popular move. An example is the Vienna Stanley variation. 1.e4 e5 2. Nc3 Nc6 3. Bc4 Bc5 4. Qg4 The only possible given line for black is 4…Qf3? Which is a 69% win rate for white according to the lichess player base. Even just undeveloping the bishop and losing an entire tempo as black is a better move. My worry is using this to practice and learning bad moves, or expecting my opponent to play dubious moves that they wouldn’t in an actual game.
I only wish that at the end of then opening it would either give me advice on how I can use the opening to my advantage and how to play my pieces. Other cool features could be to “add notes” and maybe a search feature to find the opening my computer opponent is playing.
It would be a good app but it’s very confusing to navigate through. If it is easier to navigate through and learn it would be much better 2/5
This application is full of useful information, presented in a very clean, easy to use format. Please add the ability to display in landscape format, if at all possible!
Can’t import PGNs.
Going to use this app often to hopefully get me past 1300.
Good app for exploring chess openings
