How much does Chessbook cost?
Chessbook has several in-app purchases/subscriptions, the average in-app price is ₹403.45.
I’ve paid for the premium version for a couple of months, and it has been great until it recently decided it was done working. Every time I try to open it immediately closes. My phone has plenty of storage and the network connection is fine. What a shame. I can’t recommend it to anyone in this state.
Very good
10/10 would call again.
Baffling! No instructions!
What is this supposed to do? You enter 5 moves of an opening and then a few days later you practice them. Is that it? How do you add new moves? You can start another sequence of 5 moves, but can’t delete any sequence. There is no instruction manual. There must be more to it than this!!
Chessable is better
I came in thinking this was an app that trained you and provided lessons, like chessable.
Instead this app has you perform your opening move, then it memorizes your move, then you choose which of the following moves, the Ai should follow up with.. and so forth.
this is the core of this app. It then saves these moves, and you repeat them over & over. I don’t get it? I’m here to learn from the masters see their courses. I have no idea about openings yet.
Chessable offers exactly what this app offers and much more. Full repertoires courses with video and puts you in different situations you need to overcome.
What chessable lacks is a constant repeat of the same move over and over, so we can memorize the tactic. Instead you’ll have to redo the course, just to redo that part tactic you’d like to memorize.
I thought this was a chessable competitor and I was hoping for that replay feature.
Unfortunately this app, is not that. I have no idea what is this app’s purpose, it’s not teaching you openings, it’s watching your openings.
This app is definitely not for beginners or intermediate players like myself.
Incredible Resource
This is my first app review. For $5/month (I think it was around that), it’s an absolute no-brainer.
Exactly what I wanted
I never write reviews but this app delivers on exactly what I’ve been looking for. A simple app where I can create an opening I like and practice is over and over and then practice the most common branching lines over and over. Has definitely helped improve my openings.
Great! Have a suggestion
Both the theory of this app and execution are stellar! One thing I would change is the notifications. If you could make the notifications customizable, like change the amount of moves per day. I would find it easier to open up the app and start practicing if the little red notification said “10”, compared to “78”. Of course, once you get going you might do all 78! but it’s just easier to approach with a lower count
Great tool, user-friendly interface could be improved
This software is amazing. My only complaint is it doesn’t have the greatest user-friendly interface out there, but I’m probably just saying this because I’m a bit spoiled with chess.com’s layout.
I’m grateful that the developers allow users to create so many opening repertoires without paying a dime.
Soon enough, I’ll have my main lines, common variations, and pet lines down pat!
Best Opening Trainer Out
I can't remember the last time I wrote an App Store review. But I have to for this app. Built in engine, % seen in GM games, names for variations 7+ moves in.
The free options are fantastic, and i went to pro strictly to support the devs as I have my entire (limited) repertoire in and only use 50%.
If you have any experience with file management, then the structures of how to arrange your openings help determine the built in spaced repetition. If you have one major line you wanna flush out with several variations, add that and practice. If you have several 5-7 move deep shorter openings (common for low elo like myself) it's easy to set those up and get more familiar with all of them after two weeks and not even realize it.
The only "effort," I put in was tapping through the suggested responses with what I see in my games. Now the platform offers me spaced learning, games with similar tactics, and common variations to continue a line once I'm familiar.
AND THEY HAVE A WEB PLATFORM FOR FREE!
An amazing app that's already improved my openings greatly with the least amount of work put into having it be useful. 6/5 new standard
Thank you!!
This is fantastic! So easy to use and makes studying so much easier. And thank you to Stjepan from Hanging Pawns for introducing it to me!!
