Awkward to use, nuisance to install, marketing gimmick
An Amsterdam canal boat operator required us to use cumbersome app to view tickets. Quite frankly, the staff who I encountered were quite apologetic about the fact that we had to use the app. Several hours before using the app, my single ticket displayed 1xAdult (even though we were a party of five … you had to find the ticket details (rather obscurely hidden) to see that it was for five people. Worse than that, at quarter of an hour before the tour, the ticket mysteriously vanished from the application and I had to queue in the ticket office in order to get a handwritten ticket to board the boat. The obvious aim of the application is to send you irrelevant and unsolicited tourist attraction sales promotions. The end result however is to demean and diminish those operators gullible enough to agree to using this worthless, cumbersome, intrusive application.
