With more than 500,000 entries, the dictionary features the latest vocabulary based upon Collins’ 2.5 billion word database, complete with 6,000 biographical entries, key expressions and example sentences. Usage notes provide advice on using the right word in the right place, while cultural notes on life and language accompany thousands of etymologies that trace the roots of modern English.

I rated it with 4 stars because of the lack of sound for each word. Otherwise, it is a good and reliable app.

This extended and traditional version of the Collins Dictionary does you no favours when it comes to ensuring you’re pronouncing a word correctly. It is left up to you: to ‘acquire and master the art of solving phonetic encryption’ or ‘guess how the word might be said’. And, twenty years into the 21st century, when what we need (what I need) is speedy, helpful answers, I find this costly app to be sorely lacking on the ‘how the word should sound’ front.

Version 8.1.3.9 is SLOW!!
I've been using this very happily for a while on my iPhone 5s running iOS 7 until version 8.1.3.9 arrived with a much clearer interface but it has really slowed down word search, previous versions found words instantly as you typed, there is now a lag of several seconds. Unacceptable! Please fix asap.
