Description

The U.S. Medical Eligibility Criteria for Contraceptive Use comprises recommendations for the use of specific contraceptive methods by patients who have certain characteristics or medical conditions. The U.S. Selected Practice Recommendations for Contraceptive Use addresses a select group of common, yet sometimes controversial or complex, issues regarding initiation and use of specific contraceptive methods. The app is developed directly from the CDC Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR) by the Division of Reproductive Health and covers more than 60 characteristics or medical conditions (U.S. MEC) and numerous clinical situations (U.S. SPR). These recommendations are intended to assist healthcare providers when they counsel women, men, and couples about contraceptive method choice and use. Although these recommendations are meant to serve as a source or clinical guidance, healthcare providers should always consider the individual clinical circumstances of each person seeking family planning services.

Contraception Reviews

Valuable tool for those prescribing contraceptives

Kathryn774 on

United States

I use this often to assure that I am proving safe contraceptive care. Very valuable when prescribing contraception in complex situations.

Helpful resource

Great for quickly referencing CDC contraceptive guidelines and allowing assessment of multiple medical conditions to aid selection. The app gets updated along with new content regularly even though it says CDC Contraception 2016 at the top of the app.

Great app. Most data hasn’t changed since 2016 but some has.

Too technical

United States

This seems like it would be a great app for everyone to use and get accurate science-based info, for free. However, most of the prompts are medically abbreviated without an explanation. Maybe have this peer reviewed or tested in the community. Still a great idea.

Must have for providers of contraception

I love having evidence based information in my pocket. This new 2021 update allows you to choose up to 3 conditions at a time. Thanks CDC!

Hmmmm

Is it really an App?

It behaves like a link to relevant web sites. Valuable ones, true, but not like most Apps. It's not on your device; you need the web.

Fantastic and much needed update

SereneSilver on

United States

The latest 7/2016 update is exactly what this app needed. Information in the other version was difficult to navigate and the user interface changes are much friendlier to look at and to use. I also appreciated the extra tools included for patient education, such as contraception effectiveness and STD treatments.

I've been waiting for this

Nice to have the current guideline at my fingertips.
